How about a some posts from people that are happy with SF9 and all of the upgrades. Something like, "I bought the upgrade and it works great with my Squashrot MKIV interface." OR " My life is so much better since SF-9." Now I can edit four projects while mowing the lawn and talking on a cell phone. " OR "SF9 caused me to lose weight, it improved my eyesight and my wife moved back . " ............................I'll check back |

I'm very pleased with SF9. There are improvements to the GUI and behavior is more consistent with Vegas and CD-Architect. I have had no problem adapting to the changes, and, in fact, many are a great improvement over the older versions. I might add that I'm using it with MOTU Traveler interfaces and had no problems whatsoever. I just finished school contest season and used SF9/CD-Architect for the last two contests - 55 bands and 60 choirs. SF9 operated flawlessly. One of the truly amazing additions is the metering! I was able to evaluate it extensively during the contests. For both contests I used a modified Decca tree (the center mike was replaced with an M/S array) where the two mike pairs were mixed to 2 channels and I was able to visually note the interaction between microphone pairs using the phase meter and the mono compatibility meter. The two go hand-in-hand. Back in the days when we cut vinyl mono compatiblity was extremely important. If phasing between microphones was off the stylus on the lathe didn't know what to do and you ended up with a dull and boring sounding recording. (One of the reasons RCA, Columbia, and others turned to multi-track recordings of symphony orchestras was to try to get away from inter-microphone phase problems but Jack Renner and I found it hilarious to watch their efforts!) It is, of course, no less important today but doesn't show up as obviously as when cutting vinyl. At any rate the mono compatible meter enabled me to precisely set up my M/S pair just using air-conditioning noise in the hall. The interaction of the other two microphones with the M/S pair could have been setup too, if the phase metering were more sensitive. It takes a pretty hot signal to get a pattern large enough to really analyze. If that could be set up to where you could select the scale or range , like the peak level meters, it would be an incredibly powerful tool. SF9 exhibits excellent and very thoughtful programming! |

A happy camper. Excellent! SF-9 for live multitrack recording, Interesting. I usually use SF for backup recording and track to a bunch of TASCAM DA stuff. I record the M/S tracks raw for decoding in post. I've got an RME digiface, an EDIROL UA-25 and an Event EZbus for interfaces. I hope to hear that the RME Asio part is functioning well before I upgrade. Anybody else out there using ASIO4all ? It seems to work better with the EDIROL interface than even their new driver. |

got SF9 Works fine with RME Digiface Works much better with Edirol UA25 (it doesn't seem to like Asio4all very much) seems to be alot more efficient with computer resources sounds somewhat better than SF8 ( although nowhere near the difference in the SF7 to SF8 bump) Worked on a comp vocal /only needed the help files once Preset manager transfered the presets WTF for $115.00 it's a great upgrade! |

I think SF9 is the best SF ever. ASIO with RME HDSP Multiface is flawless. Very stable, using recently built up Intel board with Duo 6600. One item I should mention about the Intel 975, it makes available AHCI hard drive interface, which use Native Command Queueing. As long as you have recent hard drives, such as Hitachi Deskstar's, the disk performance is significantly faster. To get this functionality, you need to set it up by the 'F6 Method' with the Floppy from Intel, during XP installation. Intel's web site has lots of information, but it takes some digging to understand it. For what it's worth . . Rgds, Rick Z |

I'll put my 2 cents in as well. As a staff member and content provider at Image-Line for FL Studio, I constantly have to deal with tech support and all the crap involved with it. There are so many people out there that can barely handle windows auto updates that I am surprised they even have computers that run. It's always everyone elses fault. They are always a proffesional for "such and such" years and "KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT"! as well. For every legit bug there are some hundred craptastic "it's all your fault and you need to fix it now". "oops, never mind I figured it out" posts. I have been a SF user since (I think) ver.3. And the only issue I have (coming from a company that gives free lifetime upgrades to it's users) is having to pay for the upgrades at all. But I do. Only because they are pretty much worth it. Note to SoundForge(Sony) Lifetime free updates is a really great idea you know!!! |

Buckskin, your comments ring true. Only thing I would question is - lifetime free upgrades? Where do you make your money? You are building a business that is totally reliant on new product sales for survival - a recipe for financial oblivion. I say this as an end-user: I would rather pay (a reasonable price) for upgrades and help the software provider stay in business and working on product improvements. |

As for Image-Line, we are constantly developing new products such as synths or sample content for our vsti sampler DirectWave that are not free. If you buy FL Studio, you will receive any new FL Studio for free, for life. And we are always adding new stuff to the core program as well. But if we develop a new additive morphing vsti synth (as we are right now) then that is an extra add on that costs extra if you want it. |

I don't begrudge paying for a version upgrade, where significant new functionality is implemented. Otherwise what's the point in developing an application and going broke ? Updates within a version, certainly should be free. geoff |

Turned on the Izotope stuff and I like it. It is nice having the fft display with the multiband comp. I'm not sure that it sounds as smooth as waves (although it's about $900 cheaper) but it's smoother than the mutiband in SF. I haven't tried the verb enough to have an informed opinion about the sound but it has got a well designed gui. I like the simplified "preset save" gui update in SF9 Message last edited on5/26/2007 8:06:46 PM byBigbean. |

Well, just a quick question, Is the Noise Reduction that is included in 9 the same stuff that you had to pay for before, or a watered down version? I have been using SF since 4, and have been wanting to get the noise reduction pack, but for some reason been putting it off, now it seems to have paid off.. :) Oh, SF 9 has caused me to gain a LOT of weight and made my wife leave me for some WoW playing Geek who pays more attention to her.. ;-) kidding, since I don't have sf9 yet.. but will very shortly.. |

Thanks, I just bought it today, so I am sure to lose countless hours of meaningful chat with my friends and family to this wonderful product.. Just an idea though, you should contact Kelloggs and see if you can use the Rice Krispies name for removing the "Snap, Crackle and Pops" ok ok.. I know, calm down... |

The NR bundle was worth the upgrade price alone for me. That plugin can work miracles. Coming on the heels of CDA bundled with SF8, the whole package is tremendous value for money. The other stuff is nice, even if I am not doing surround at the moment. |
