I just finished a complete re-install of windows. Up to and including all drivers and updates. I then installed SF8.0d and it doesn't make it past the splash screen. Come up with the good old 'has a problem and needs to close' ubiquitous message. It turns out that removing the "Audio Hardware Drivers" (whose only contents is the sfasio.* stuff) does the trick and it fires up with out a problem. This needs to be freaking documented somewhere. It took me two days of browsing this forum just to find a backhanded reference to the "Audio Hardware Drivers" folder. So if nothing else, this message is for posterity's sake (and the next time I have to reinstall). The offending dll when you look at the crash message was ole32.dll. Such great error messages. Thanks for wasting my time Sony. - guitardood Message last edited on2/16/2007 11:03:10 PM byguitardood. |

Why didn't you ask here first? I am sure somebody could have helped you out. This sounds like a ASIO driver issue. Could you fill out your system specs? What audio hardware do you have? Peter Message last edited on2/18/2007 9:04:59 PM bypwppch. |

Peter, I'm running a P5B Deluxe motherboard with only the Motu PCIe-424 card connected to 4 devices, 3 2408mk3's and 1 24I/O. If I copy the sfasio.* files to the "C:\Program Files\Sony\Sound Forge 8.0\Audio Hardware Drivers" folder, Forge disappears with a poof. No errors, just doesn't work. If I move these files, forge runs without incident, albeit with standard windows drivers. More detailed system specs: P5B Deluxe Mobo P4 Core 2 Quad 4GB RAM 1 Motu PCIe-424 3 UAD-1's 1 Matrox Parhelia APVe Pretty Vanilla XP Pro installation Any help would be greatly appreciated. ------ guitardood |

I have the PCI-424 with a single 2408. It works with out a problem. Since the sfasio.dll appears to be the problem, could you try: Only connecting one the 2408's connected to the 424? (Physically disconnect the Audio Wire cable between the other devices. If this works, then add one back, etc, etc. (Note, don't do this while Forgeis running. Exit Forge, reconnect, configure, then start Forge.) Thanks Peter PS: Please fill out your system specs in your user profile. Message last edited on3/21/2007 9:15:48 PM bypwppch. |

Peter, This is kind of moot on SF8 as I just uninstalled it and installed SF9 yesterday, although SF9 still crashes in ASIO mode. I'll try your suggestion of only using one Motu device plugged in. I have 3 2408mk3s and a 24-I/O normally plugged in. I'l report back here later today. Thanks, Chuck |
