Well, I had hoped for an improvement in the SF8 batch normalization so you could batch normalize only one channel of a dual mono file....now it appears you can't even normalize one channel of a stereo or dual mono file at all...even in the non batch regular normalization screen? I process lot's of transcription files with program on Left and LTC code on the right and normalize just the left channel. I will have to continue using SF8 till I figure this out. Can you not drag or double click to select either left or right channel alone? Works ok here. |

No I cannot select either channel. When I open a two channel broadcast wave file it acts like a single file with two channels in it. No way to separate them or select only one as I can do with SF8. Decidely different. SF9 is a mess for me. I should add I'm running it on Vista. When I get some time I'll install it on my laptop which is an XP machine and see if I notice the same behaviors. |

To select one channel, click on the channel header at the left edge of the screen. |

Or drag or double-click inside the -6dB lines of the channel you want, or use the Tab key to cycle an existing channel selection, or click once on the channel header area of the channel you want to process. True, the UI has changed a bit to accommodate multi-channel files, but there are a ton of very helpful enhancements (even for mono and stereo files) that you'll discover if you give it a chance. Ok...got the selection differences from SF 8 figured out. Thanks! I think what also might be useful is if the normalization tool reported on the track or channel name that it is performing it's funciton on. The SF8 normalizer would say if it was L only or R only. Possibly the SF9 Normalizer could at some point in the future report on which channel it is analyzing or normalizing. |
