Subject:Batch Converter:too many files?

I cannot get the batch converter to work on more than about 160 files at a time. SF is a professional tool. Why this limitation.

Here is the message

System.InvalidOperationException: Too many files selected. Please select fewer files and try again.

Is this what other are getting or is something bogus with my install.
