Subject:can I record audio and monitor wet signal?

If I am recording the input of my violin into an AUDIO TRACK, I want to send the track to a preset FX chain Ive loaded in the mixer as an ASISIGNABLE FX and monitor the wet signal while recording. I definitely play differently when I hear the wet signal than when Im recording dry.
Right now, I setup the audio track to monitor, but I only hear the dry input.
Thanks!
Flo

FYI...manual says that the ability to monitor wet signal when recording is subject to the speed of your hardware. I am running Win XP pro SP2, w/. 3.2 Ghz P4 CPU and 2GB RAM. I am using a Steinberg MI4 audio interface with ASIO driver. Everything works flawlessly - I would just like to be able to hear my playing through the FX when I 'm recording

On the track, right click and set the input monitor mode.

or

when armed, you can select the input monitor mode by clicking on the input glyph.

Hi again, Peter!
Thanks for the reply but I knew how to monitor, I just cant get a particular monitor scenario to work. Here's my issue in a nutshell...

If I arm an audio track and select monitor ON or AUTO, and there is an insert FX on that track or the track is being routed to a bus that has FX inserted, I hear the wet signal fine - NO PROBLEM!
But if I arm a track and try to use the multipurpose slider mode to send the track's output to an ASSIGNABLE FX (ex. FX1 sending to reverb at -40), then I cant monitor it wet, nor do I see any of the signal being sent to the Assignable FX channel in the mxer while recording. It's not until after I have recorded the track that I can actually see and hear a signal being routed to the assignable FX channel on playback. I cant seem to the assignable FX monitor the same way I can with the insert or bus FX.

Does the wet monitor only work for track insert FX and or when sending to a bus FX and not when sending to an assignable FX channel in the mixer strip? Maybe it's not me - maybe this time it's actually something I want to do and can't

Thanks again for your help!
F.

AFAIK, you can only monitor input in real-time with effects at the track level. (Though, admittedly, I've never really tried this extensively as I record almost everything via external hardware.)

I tought about this afterwards...I guess if I really want to hear the FX live while playing, it wouldn't be a bad thing to place them at the track level, play with them and then render out to a new track. I think that's probably the most reasonable workaround

Thanks Iac!
