I have an XP computer, a Casio CTK-800 electronic keyboard which i have been trying to record my playing onto my computer. I have managed MIDI which i can hear through my Casio keyboard speakers but cannot for the life of me record onto my computer successfully. Yes my microphone input works. Yes i have MPU -401 and Microsoft ticked under preferences for output although it says None on the right. Yes i do all the steps in the show me how but nothing happens. Help i am desperate this is nearly three months now.... |

Do you have an audio cable running from the output of the keyboard into the LINE input of your sound card? Do you have the LINE input selected for recording? |

Hi person Thank you for replying. Actually i did not used to because i thought that the USB line was all that was required up to a week ago. I have since added a line fron the headphones port on the Casio keyboard to the microphone port on my computer tower. Where would i select LINE input for recording please as there in no where under Preferences Audio to do this? Thanks |

Midi and audio are radically different things. What's used to move midi from one device to another usually doesn't transfer audio, and vice versa. You should be connecting to the line in input on your soundcard and not the mic input. Going into the mic input will most likely result in a noisy, distorted recording. Almost all sound cards have at least 3 jacks: output, mic in, and line in. To choose which input to record from, use Windows' volume control panel. Double-click the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen to bring up the volume control. Choose Options / Properties / Recording / OK. You'll now see a set of input controls. Select Line In and use that slider to control the volume. |

Yahoooo i have lift off. Thank you!!!!! I did not realize that there was a difference between the different ports and that you had to select one. I am only hearing my recording in mono ie from one speaker but this is my first ever beakthrough on this issue. Thank you again Chienworks you are definitely on my Christmas card list. Nev |

Is it possible you only have a mono cable? Look at the ends carefully. If you see two pieces of metal, a shaft and a tip, separately by a single line, then it's a mono plug. A stereo plug will have a shaft, a ring, and a tip, with two lines separating them. If you use a mono plug then you'll only get signal on the left channel and the right channel will be shorted to silence. |
