Is the "Classic Wave Driver" just a generic term for whatever Windows driver the sound card supports (MME or WDM)? RME just released a low latency WDM driver for the Hammerfall DSP line and I just want to make sure it's compatiple with the Sony products. Would the "Classic Wave" setting utilize the WDM driver?? PS: Has anyone tried this driver yet? |

The Classic Wave Driver refers to the API used - MME. The RME cards always had really good native MME drivers. To take advantage of WDM native drivers you would need to use something like WDM Kernel streaming, which we do not support. (We have no plans to support WDM Kernel Streaming.) Depending on how RME implemented thier WDM and their Wave, then the Wave driver _could_ use Microsoft Wave API emulation. This would be the only way that ACID (or Vegas) could use the WDM driver. However Windows could get in the way. You should use either a native MME driver or ASIO. Wave through WDM through Windows emulation could introduce latency. Is there a reason you don't use ASIO? RME use to brag about their ASIO drivers being the best in the world. Peter Message last edited on3/7/2007 10:41:38 AM bypwppch. |

Thanks for the info! I currently use ASIO in Acid, but I use the MME in Vegas because I find it more stable and less CPU intensive with large projects. This new driver is supposed to be really good at low latency and CPU consumption, so I thought it might work well. |
