I use ACID (ACID 5) mostly for MIDI sequencing. I love the Piano Roll in ACID - it's very easy to work with for what I need it to do, which is almost exclusivly making drum patterns. I love the layout and the tools make sense to me. What has always bothered and frustrated me is the behavior of the transport in the piano roll. I wish that the trasport of the timeline followed the trasport of the piano roll. Every other program I've tried seems to work this way. I need to hear the MIDI event I'm editing in context with the rest of my audio and MIDI tracks - not just the MIDI event. I've simply worked around it the past few years. I chose ACID because I am a Vegas user. It has been great to learn how to create using MIDI with ACID, but I am feeling that I should have chose a different program. I do not use a lot of loops. I tried the ACID 6 demo and had high hopes for being able to edit on the timeline. It just dosen't work me. I prefer the piano roll. Is there anyway to sync playback between the piano roll and the timeline? I'm hoping that somehow I have missed something and I can just click a button and make this happen in ACID. Otherwise, given that ACID 6 didn't seem to help me, I'll have to go with a more traditional MIDI editor. |

Hey JamesHE, Not sure how in depth you tested AP6. Q:What are you able to do in the "Clip Properties" Piano Roll that you can't do with the "timeline" piano roll? With the timeline piano roll it's easier to make drum patterns. Add a midi track. Paint a empty event. Press the "G" key on your computer keyboard. You should now see the timeline piano roll. Click on the "track list icon"[it's the little keyboard gui to the right of the device selection button] Now select "drum maps" then "select drum maps". I have bfd 1.5. For example if I select bfd 1.5 drum map the "piano roll keyboard" on acids timeline now becomes "labeled" with the drum trigger names. ie:kick, snare, high hat,etc... This is WAY easier to edit than the old way. AND when you play back your drum part it plays in sync with your tune. You can also create your own custom mappings for ANY vsti easily. This is covered in the AP6 help file. Q2:What does a "traditional midi editor" have that AP6 doesn't? What in your workflow is exceptable in AP5 but you can't get your head around in AP6? To be honest I don't understand. I can enlarge the midi track and the text for each midi trigger notes and edit the same way as in the clip properties piano roll. Also AP6 has a bunch of quantizing features, midi step record, midi merge record, not found in AP5 among other things so if you could go in depth it would help out alot. Talk to you soon. Ed. |
