Vegas on Vista

MaxH wrote on 2/21/2007, 5:56 AM
After installing Vegas on my new Dual Core system I cannot get the programme to open. It stops when the sceen says 'Initialising DirectX plug ins' and then says, Rundll32 has stopped working!
On reboot, Vista tells me that it has blocked a driver (Sonic Solutions DLA) because of incompatability problems.
I have tried reinstalling.
Can anyone please help?

Not that I'm a guru on this stuff but I would definitely go to the Sonic Solutions site for a compatible Vista driver.

There is one fix for this that will improve your render times and make your system perform about 6 to 12% better over all. Install Windows XP SP2 now. Then reinstall Vista in about one year.

I just did a bit of Googling and there are a bunch of folks having that Rundll32 error. You should check it out.

Some folks noticed that it's related to Nero. You seem to have Sonic, so it's related to your burning software. Other folks having having issues with their video drivers and Vista.

Wes C. Attle may have given you the best answer. I use Vegas on Vista and, to me, it's world's better, but I have the hardware support I need. If you don't have the hardware support, then these crashes, errors and constant annoyances will completely undermine the purpose of Sony Vegas and Windows Vista.

If research and a reinstall don't solve your problem, go back to XP for awhile. Or, ride it out and make a fuss to whoever hasn't released a Vista compatible driver. I'm just saying that Vista is barely a few months old, so your hardware manufacturer might not be in a rush.

Thanks, but it's a new machine and I can't bear going to purchase XP now - I just came away from it!
It's a Dell machine so I cannot be the only person with the problem.

Good point (and JJ).
It's a Sonic driver butmy brain translated this as a Sony driver.
Think I will do some searching again.

Downloaded a patch and cured the problem.
I thought it was a Sony driver causing the issue so thanks for pointing me to Sonic.

Have you figured out how to get quicktime to work well with Vista? QT 7.1.3 won't work for me with vegas & vista. What about Media manager? Those two things are keeping me from testing my new quad with vista ... thankfully my main machine is stable with xp pro.

"What about Media manager?"

Media Manager (in it's current state using the old school MSDE engine) will never be supported in Vista. Sony is going to have to do some work on the database portion of Media Manager to get it current.

As far as QT - I undertstand Apple is close to releasing a Vista compatible iTunes/QT combo here at some point. Lots of folks moved to Vista just to see iTunes not work. Since iTunes and QT are pretty much joined at the hip...I wouldn't be surprised to see a refreshed version of QT for Vista here shortly....

Cheers!

That's a delight I have yet to sample :-)
Will let you know.

Apple said they are going to release a V7.1 of iTunes for Windows Vista. iTunes 'should' come with an update to QT too.
dat5150 wrote on 2/21/2007, 8:41 PM
Look into the 'compatibility feature' on Vista.

Still happy with Vista...working great...not going back!
MaxH wrote on 2/22/2007, 9:20 AM
Seemed cured yesterday but the same thing is happening again and, this time, nothing I can do will solve the problem!
Also, QT does not work - Apple are (hopefully) bringing out an update soon.
Vista. GGrrrr.

Sure doesnt stop you from pissing on his right now does it?
jaydeeee wrote on 2/22/2007, 8:41 PM
Get a grip, who's pissing on anything? This is how "I" see that POS known as Vista right now (and probably thru Vista SP14), nobody is stopping anybody from using it. Though, if that was even remotely possible I might care to try.

The right resolve right now was given by a Mr. Wes C. Attle.
Is he "pissing" on it too? No.

You're acting like some Vista sales rep with all this. Relax - use it if you want, but "promoting" it right now is ridiculous IMO.
p@mast3rs wrote on 2/23/2007, 2:06 AM
Im not promoting it. It just seems every time someone has something positive to say about it, you have to chime in with the "POS" angle. It gets old.

This is a forum, people will post here.
Unless you're the forum police I do believe people can post their answers/opinions in a thread. Correct?

I gotta agree with JAYDEEEE on this. I bought Vista and did my best to keep my mind closed to all the negative stuff. But after 3 weeks of playing with Vista (the 32 bit version anyway) I found it to be nothing but a side step to XP.... maybe even a slight step backwards. Oh sure, vista Aero is real pretty, but IMO all this increased security has been place in COMPLETELY the wrong areas... the internet connection should have been what was concentrated on, and little effort went into that area. And there are all kinds of choices that we have had for years which have been removed.... The final straw for me was discovering that the choice to change the start up sound is gone.... Such a tiny little choice that wasn't bothering anybody.... and they took it away.

I've since gone back to XP. I know that sooner or later we will have Vista forced on us, but hopefully by then the 64 bit version will be a little more settled and at least we will be able to claim the increased speed as a valid reason to switch.

And BTW... Vista's start up sound... I hacked into it and am now using it as a XP shutdown sound.... Suck on that Gates!!

anyone had any success getting quicktime to work properly with Vista? That's a critical piece I need to make Vegas work properly on a Vista machine we have here. I'm surprised Apple hasn't come out with an update since others are complaining about Vista breaking itunes, etc. (quicktime 7.1.3 has been around for a while).

I have heard that Apple will release the Vista compatible version of Quicktime (along with the new Vista compatible iTunes) before the end of the first quarter of this year. That means you have about a month or less to wait.

In my mind, Apple has done an incredible job lately. Think about it, they're working on BootCamp, which is still in beta, whilst also getting it to run the new Windows Vista, whilst they're also working on the next video ipod, not to mention its sibling the amazing iPhone, whilst they're also finishing the next mac os x which runs entirely 64 bit, which is not such a simple task since they don't jimmy their 64 bit releases *cough* bill *cough*. Oh, almost forgot, with the new 64 bit OS comes their suite of software like FinalCut and Soundtrack, which need to be updated. Man, they are quite literally the "happenin" company right now. I didn't intend to get all fan boy (because I'm a windoze man, myself), but the proof is in the product.
p@mast3rs wrote on 3/5/2007, 8:20 AM
The ONLY reason I went back to XP is because DVRack 2.0 HD doesnt work in Vista.
Hutch wrote on 3/6/2007, 1:14 AM
I too bought a new laptop, preloaded with that infernal Vista OS. So, what the heck, I tried installing VMS, and it insisted that it needed to install .NET framework version 1.1 (!) But wait, Vista already has .net version 3.x - so... wtf?

Anyway, I go along with the joke and say "ok" to the install of .net v1.1, and things seem okay - but then on program start - I also got one of those runndll32 errors - then the program opened. But it was a poor crippled thing that couldn't even handle a drag move without some kind of memory error.

Is *anyone* running Vegas on vista with success? My guess is no, and it's back to XP-pro for me. Vista and the real world are just not ready for each other yet.

And after ~7 years and billions of dollars in development - this is the finest they can offer? I know that 3rd party vendors are partly to blame, but man, this whole thing just isn't cooked yet at all. What a mess. -H

#1. I'm running Vegas on Vista, and it works fine.

#2. Lo and behold, the day I speakith, Apple releasith a new Quicktime and iTunes. I'm sure it still has it's own list of incompatibilities, but at least progress is being made.
