Subject:AP6d does it need XP SP2?

Just 'upgraded' from AP6a to 6d. What a nightmare. Was told I had to download some updates to Windoze software. Now having dsl, I hit the link to download and install. Download went okay, install went okay. After AP6d was done installing, I rebooted my computer. Started AP6d and opened a project I know works in AP5 (latest version) and had worked previously in AP6a. Guess what - project won't open. I get an error box saying a track can't be found and am given the option to leave that track offline, which I do. Acid then crashes. Before I do any further investigating on my part, can someone definitely tell me one way or the other, does AP6D require the Service Pack 2 update to the Windoze XP operating system? I don't run SP2, just SP1 and have no wish to update to SP2, with all the problems that will entail.

Actually, I think I wasted my money on getting AP6. I already have Sonar 5 for DAW work, so what was I thinking? Is there anything strictly Acid-related (looping, etc.) that's been upgraded for the better in 6? I don't need and use the Media Manager.

Yeah, I'm with you! I too, am staying with XP1 after reading and hearing about all of the problems. I'm using Acid Pro 6.0b and it works fine on my old fashioned XP1. I've tried the later Acid updates c & d and had way, way too many problems and always went back to v6.0b. There are still a few minor bugs, but all of the real important problems were fixed in 6.0b.

Jack, I obviously can't speak for everybody, but my understanding is the SP2 is a, pretty well, necessasary upgrade. Maybe someone else can clarify that.

Ranger Bob, Why don't you post your system specs? I looked at the list of your postings. Have you been able to solve any of your problems with acid?

Guys, I think it is possible to run acid 6.0 without problems. I do. Just hang in there and post your problems as specificly as possible.

DKeenum:
How do you figure Windoze SP2 is a necessary upgrade? Only if you need the so-called security stuff, I believe. I don't think that there is any music software that absolutely needs it except maybe Acid 6d, but no one here has said yes or no. That's what I need to know.
All I want to know is if SP2 is needed by acid 6d. Posting my problems isn't going to help if it needs that so-called upgrade. Can someone from Sony, maybe Peter, post here whether SP2 is needed? Just a simple yes or no is all I want. Elsewise it's back to Acid 5 for looping and Sonar 5 for DAW work. I thought I could simplify things and use one program for both, but that seems to not be the case.

I never could get Acid upgrade 6C to load, it was halted by the request for
a new frameworks from microsoft. I never loaded service pack 2, and our
music systems are not online for upgrades. When I tried to update to Windows
Media Player 11, it would not load and said that I must have service pack 2.
So this leads me to beleive that if you stay at XP-1, do not upgrade to Service
Pack 2.

It takes so much time to get a machine in tune with various program vendors.
The only way is to have 2 machines with the same audio cards and programs.
One you experiment with, the other you use but to not upgrade.

Things are moving so fast and there are so many drivers, companies it becomes
the good, the bad and the ugly.

So Windows XP-1
Acid 6b
Windows Media Player 9
Stay offline.
