Subject:Background noise Posted by: Jerilyn Date:1/19/2007 2:22:26 PM I just upgraded to SF 8 from SF 4.5. All I do is record voice and save to .wav files. Pretty simple stuff. I noticed that this version picks up more noise and was wondering what steps I could take to reduce it. I would rather not spend the extra money on Noise Reducer 2.0. Thanks.

All Sound Forge does is capture the digital signal coming in from your sound card and write it to the disk. If you're getting more noise now then probably something changed with your sound card settings or hardware.

If I have background noise, I usually use smooth/enhance and drop it to around -4, -5. I than throw some EQ afterwards to raise the highs back, restore. This works great when micing instruments, and voice.

Check Options > Preferences > Audio to see what soundcard drivers are being used. You can also try using the built-in Tools > Audio Restoration function for basic noise reduction. Scott -- Scott R.
