Subject:Recording in SF 8.0

Hey guys, this is gonna sound like a dumb question, but I just got SF 8.0 and am amazed by all of its features. I noticed it can record as well, however, I also own Acid Music Studio. I was wondering, should I use SF 8.0 for all my recording purposes now? I noticed Soundforge won't pan tracks, etc, so mixing might be difficult? Just curious if I can do everything in one program.

Thanks

Bryant

Sound Forge can't do multiple tracks at all, so you'll still use ACID for mixing. Sound Forge can record just as well as ACID can. However, after recording, if you want to mix in ACID you'll have to import the recorded tracks and paint them on the timeline. On the other hand, ACID records just as well as Sound Forge and the new tracks will automatically be on the timeline as soon as you finish recording.

I'm not saying you shouldn't use Sound Forge for recording. It just seems that in your case staying inside ACID would probably be easier. Reserve Sound Forge for "surgical" audio tasks, such as trimming precisely, fixing waveform glitches, creating ACID loop parameters, etc

Almost all my recording is plain ol' stereo, no mixing. For me it's easier to record the whole event in Sound Forge, then after that stay in Sound Forge to slice up the songs, do some necessary editing, finish them off there.

Hi Bryant,

Think of ACID as a multitrack sequencing application that allows you to compose and record entire songs with multiple audio, midi and loop tracks.

Think of Sound Forge as an audio editor that allows you to create your own loops, sound effects, allows you to edit audio precisely, batch process multiple audio files, create audio for the Internet, etc.

If you are working in Acid, record in Acid !

Like, if you are working on a Word doc, do you enter paragraphs in Notepad then import them to Word ?!! ;-)
