Hi, I just bought a USB mic that is a mono mic. I'm using SoundForge 7.0 and would like it to record to both channels. My old mic plugged into the sound card and somehow it did that. Help! (and thanks in advance.) |

Why do you need to record to both channels? A mono recording automatically plays back through both channels. |

Hmmm.... When I was recording, all of the activity was in the left channel and nothing on the right. The mic I was using was a Samson CO1U. To be honest, I didn't listen to it because I could see everything on one track and almost nothing on the other. Are you saying that given that, I would have had sound out of each channel? |

Just to add to my last line, when I used my old mic (plugged into the sound card) I had signal on both tracks. With the USB mic, I only had signal on one. |

Well, apparently you are recording in stereo. Change the recording type to mono instead. |

GBC, As Chienworks said, change your recording settings to use 1 channel (mono) when recording. If you need a stereo file afterward, you can use the Process > Channel converter function to change the file. Scott -- Scott R. I often frieked when I could only hear sound coming out of the left ear of my headphones when recording, before realizing finally it was in mono and would later than be converted to Stereo afterwards. Lol. |

***If you need a stereo file afterward, you can use the Process > Channel converter function to change the file.*** Is this function available in SoundForge Audio Studio as well? Before I buy the software I'd like to know if I can use it to extract the left channel only of a CD audio track and be able to play it back in both channels in Sound Forge AS. |

I don't know if that function is there by that name. However, if nothing else, you can open a mono file and save it as stereo. But, there's really not any reason to. Any place you use a mono file it will play back through both speakers. Save the left channel only as a mono file and you're done. |
