Back when I first bought Sound Forge and Noise Reduction they were separate products and sold and price separately. Recently someone told me that Noise Reduction 2.0 is included with Sound Forge 8. That's not the way I read the specs. However, it's difficult to tell since I already have both. What's the scoop?

There is a subset of Noise Reduction called Sony Express FX Audio Restoration, but not the full Noise Reduction 2.0 package. There have been sites that have offerred delas on the combination of SF8 and Noise Reduction 2, which is what you may have seen.

I live in Canada and bought Soundforge 8 in April. It came bundled with CD Architect 5 and Noise Reduction 2.0 CD, which includes plug-ins for noise reduction, clipped peak restoration, click and crackle removal and vinyl restoration.

On my SF8 box is a big blue sticker saying 'Inside Every Box - Noise Reduction 2.0 software directx sound restoration plug-ins' AND CD Architect 5 software Red Book Audio CD Mastering - OVER US $500 Value

I got my copy of SF for $169.99 CDN not including taxes from studica.ca - i qualify for the educational discount price, so it was an amazing deal !!

I got Noise Reduction 2.0 free from Sonic Foundry as part of an upgrade package deal with Sound Forge 6.0. I did not get it with the Sound Forge 8.0 upgrade though.

SF8 was the first Soundforge product I owned, I didn't upgrade from an older version. There was a copy of SF2 on a second hand computer I bought a long time ago which I didn't use as I owned Wavelab 3 (which has since gotten broken) but I couldn't resist it when I got the cool deal with the educational discount, SF8, CDA5 and NR2.0 all bundled together for less than 170 CDN dollars.

I just upgraded from SF6 to SF8d. I had upgraded my Noise Reduction 2.0 and updated to 2.0c the other day on my SF6. Now that I upgraded to SF8 my NR does not show up. Am I missing it? Thanks

OK, I found it in the preset manager and added it to the favorites. Thanks

The noise reduction package that comes separately from Sound Forge is still a separately supplied package. SF 7 and 8 have a subset, but it isn't the same as the full blown package. It is separately installed from all the other Sony packages and is usable with all the different Sony packages (Vegas, Sound Forge, Acid Pro, and all the other Sony products.

Thanks and then my next question is the version I am seeing in SF8 is the subset and not the separate package I bought? I am guessing I need to re-install the separate version and re-register it for use in SF8? When I brought up the screen in SF8 with the NR it showed 2.0c which I had just upgraded two weeks ago in VV7 from NR2.0. So I THOUGHT it was the full blown version? How do I really tell? I THOUGHT looking at the ABOUT screen and version was all I needed to do. Forgive me, I am an AGGIE '74. grin.

Hi Gary,

Yes, that's the full version. The subset mentioned earlier is the audio restoration feature in the Tools menu that brings up a dialog box with some basic cleaning tools. Nothing close to what NR2 provides.
