There are a couple methods
One is to use the track motion to pull each vid to the side. A second method is to use Cookie Cutter to do the same.
A third method would use a mask and compositing to achieve it.

I've put up a downloadable zip file for you to see all three methods in VMS. Hopefully one of the three will help out.

Thanks DSE,
I'm going to give it a whirl and see which one works best.
Thanks again,
Beth

You're most welcome. Let us know how it worked out, if it does.

Wow. I didn't even know that this feature (track motion) of VMS existed. Is there a good tutorial or example of things you can do with it somewhere?

Thanks DSE!

With Vegas MovieStudio 6, this is how I achieved a split screen effect (both sides can be zoomed/panned independantly).

This is an illustrated .pdf doc I assembled outlining the procedure.
