ok one last time. my system infor intel celeron 2.7 presonus firepod ASIO i really have no idea what's up. when i used ACID 6.0B i have absolulety NO problems. Everything runs AWESOME. now, without changing any settings at all. i download and install ACID 6.0D and all of a sudden ACID runs like crap. by "crap" i mean, it plays audio, but it stutters and skips all over. making the audio almost unrecognizable. after becoming tired of this "crap" i do a System Restore back to ACID 6.0B and it's like a magic wand had been used and ACID works wonderfully again. so, knowing this, why does ACID 6.0B work great and both ACID 6.0C and Acid 6.0D work like absolute crap. what chaged between 6.0B and 6.0C & D to make this "crap" happen. before anyone tells me to disable. unload and get rid of vst's and all fx and try. or check my settings and track buffering, drivers and all that wonderful stuff, i have checked. and everything is exactly the same as when ACID was working great. i also understand this isn't tech support, but there are some smart people on this forum and i can't be the only one with this issue. thanks for any and all help |

Hey little guy... From my stand point I have no idea where to start in questioning you since you've already been through it all...I guess. But here goes. 1)What does your audio projects consist of? Please describe in detail how many tracks...number of plugins...what vendors they came from...[ie:uad plugins???URS???Waves???....Audio signal routing...etc...Please don't leave anything out. 2)When you say "run like crap" does this run the same with ZERO Plugins??? ie:the same audio project you have loaded up with ALL plugins deleted...How does acid run? 3)Any projects rewired to anything? 4)What presonus driver are you using? I'm using a Firebox and it runs great in acid 6.0d. Do you have anything else plugged into the firewire port with your presonus??? Are you using a pci card with firewire? Or from the computer mother board firewire? If it's from a pci card does the card have BOTH firewire AND usb 2.0 built into the same card??? That would be bad. For audio or video you should ONLY use a pci card that has EITHER firewire OR USB 2.0...FYI. 5)Where do you have your audio files...loops...whatever you are using stored? ie:on a separate hard drive from your OS right??? On a external drive??? Firewire/USB 2.0??? 6)How much cpu usage does the earlier 6.0b session take up at maximum compared to 6.0d??? ie:the same project in 6.0b would never go past 27% but in 6.0d it maxs at 100% just from playback...??? The only way we can isolate your problem is for you to post your project specifics EXACTLY. Or else I'll just be babbling throughout this all. I'm really curious as to your answer to number 5...If your stuff is on a external Hard drive copy all the stuff for the projects to a "internal" hard drive separate from the os and run the projects in 6.0d and see how it handles. ie:HD 1=OS with acid installed with all vst plugins/vst instruments...HD 2=loops/audio files...external HD 3...only used for storage...render too. Once bitten, twice shy. I'll bet many people (like me) are waiting before installing 6.0d, to see what others have to say about this latest update. I too would like Litteguy to add more specifics. What are the actual differences in performance between updates B and D? Assuming that you haven't done any changes in hardware or other settings, you can give the rest of us a clear idea of the differences. And thanks for being the guinea pig! |

ok, tonight when i get home i will write down EVERYTHING. for now i can say this: -all my loops and audio samples are on a separate hard drive. -without being able to give you an exact number, my cpu usage for ACID 6.0B is really low, something like 14% during playback. For ACID 6.0D & C it's at 100%. -this stuttering and pausing happens with a single track project without any vst's or plugins. -i'm using a single firewire port , it's not a pci. -my firepod drive is version 2.14.25 -i've tried all the audio drivers with the same results -i've also tried setting my latency to 25ms, with 6.0B i can run at 3ms without any troubles. -acid is set to automatically detect hardware latency |

to better describe my problem, during playback, the CPU is totally maxed out at 100% and it plays like it's maxed out. stuttering, pausing for split seconds. version 6.0B runs great with low CPU usage. version 6.0C and 6.0D run horribly during playback with CPU usage at 100% even when project only has 1 small track without any plugins or FX. |

A suggestion: - Download, install and configure Acid to use ASIO4ALL drivers. |

mahtazz, when i use acid, i always use ASIO drivers for my audio. playback, recording etc.. the only time i didn't use ASIO drivers was when i was trying to find out what the issue was with playback. i'm not sure what you are suggesting because i always use ASIO drivers |

Asio4All is a Universal ASIO Driver For WDM Audio. It doesn't use Asio drivers from your SoundCard it uses Windows Drivers. http://www.asio4all.com Sometimes, it has solved some driver issues for me. Good luck! |

Something to try: From prefs, disable the Media Manager, and restart. Q: Your performance problem occurs with just a single audio track, a master bus, and a single audio loop? Peter Message last edited on12/8/2006 9:42:08 AM bypwppch. |

well, when i was using ACID 6.0B i had disabled the media manager. when i installed the ACID 6.0D i figured that the media manager would remain disabled. maybe that's it. maybe when i installed the update it enabled the media manager. i'll have to check when i get home. oh and to answer your question, yes my problem occurs with just a single audio track, a master bus and a single audio loop. thanks once again to all who are trying to help chris |

-all my loops and audio samples are on a separate hard drive.---But NOT a external hard drive connected to your PC via firewire or usb 2.0 right??? Anything else connected to your computer via firewire WITH your presonus??? Have you done a flash of your motherboard bios at all as of recent? Ed. |

there are no external hard drives connected to my PC via firewire or usb 2.0. the only thing connected to my computer via firewire or usb is my firepod. like i said earlier, when it comes to my settings and PC setup, nothing is different from when i was using version B. Version B works perfectly. this is why i'm so confused as to why version C & D won't work, i haven't changed a thing since version B. Peter said that maybe the media manager needs to be disabled. i disabled it while using version B, so unless it gets re-enabled when i updated to version D... oh i don't know.............. |

Yes it will get reenabled once you do a update. Just go into the preferences again once you installed and "uncheck it". Apply..ok...then close out of acid and reopen it...now it shouldn't be running in the background. Ed. |

Hi little guy, I was reading recently in FLStudio forums about problems in Presonus Firepod drivers. |

yeah, i briefly read about there issue with XP SP2. i'm curious if that's where the problem is. also i did the update, and it held all of my prior settings, such as the media manager remaining disabled... hhmmmm. ok well i'm going to check this out. also i may check out that asio4all stuff. |

well, i got the "fix" for the firepod driver. i also tried the asio4all driver. each did not help my situation. i'm at a loss. something has changed the way acid 6.0 works between versions B and C/D that doesn't work well with my computer apparently. who knows. all i know is that it works great as version B and versions C/D are CPU hogs. could just be that my computer isn't powerful enough. i just think it's wierd. |

Just for giggles, did you try completely uninstalling ACID and install using only the 6.0d update? Sometimes that can clear things up for some problems users are having (though I don't know exactly why). You'll have to go through the process of resetting all your preferences, but if it works... Remember to keep your serial key handy when you install. Iacobus |

How about a "brute force" method and reformatting your system? Yeah, I know, that sounds extreme, but if nothing else is working, it may help to find out once and for all if anything was interfering. Iacobus |

Does anyone really want Media Manager running by default? I certainly don't. Its just another thing for me to remember to fix when I run an Acid installer. I have never heard anyone extol the virtues of Media Manager. Can someone please tell me how great it is? |

yeah i really don't want to have to reformat... plus i'm in the middle of some projects that have already been on hold for too long and i have ppl waiting for the finished product. |

I'm sure this is not the news you want but we were having major problems until we (on a whim) installed ACID on another PC. I'm thinking there must be some chip set incompatibilities somewhere because now we're screaming (with video and MM) We went from 2x the recommended PC to 3x. Not the cheapest bug fix but it's like night and day. Jesse |
