I always have snapping on and I usually stay with the default of "Ruler Marks" because it allows me to control the snapping by zooming in and out with my mouse wheel. On occasion I will change it to a fixed musical duration (usually quarter notes) but only if I need to be zoomed out and need a finer level of snapping than the grid marks are showing. ~jr |

> is it enabled when the the grid only is faded grey? Enabled means snapping is enabled. It will snap to the grid, markers, regions, boundaries, etc. When Grid-Only is turned on, snapping will only occur at grid marks. That means you will not get snapping to markers, regions, etc. > also what do you set your grid spacing to? I already answered the grid spacing question. I keep mine on "Ruler Marks" most of the time. The grid spacing changes as you zoom in and this makes the snapping dynamic with the grid. > kinda confused with the different settings for grid spacing What is confusing you? Are things not snapping where you want them to? It's a rather simple function based on musical notation. If you are not familiar with musical notation then just leave it on "Ruler Marks" and don't worry about it. ~jr |

when you enable it or unenable it it doesn't put a check mark next to it to see if it is enabled |

Yea, this is one of of the problems with the ACID and Vegas menus. I can never tell what's enabled and what is not. It is way too subtle. there is a slight gray box around it but it's really tough to make out. ~jr |

If starting a new project, I usually just start with a quarter note grid. It goes all over the place from there. ;) I can tell when snapping is on just by looking at the respective button on the standard toolbar. It's "snapping to grid only" that you can't tell if it's enabled off the bat. Don't forget you can temporarily override snapping by holding down Shift as you click and drag an event. Iacobus |
