Subject:Acid doesn't remember which VST I used

I generally reinstall windows every few months. I then reinstall all my VSTs and get back to work. I wrote a song for my new album and checked it off as done when it was finished. Now I wanted to go back and change some lyrics. So I opened up the acd file and started playing it. The bass synth was gone. The midi track was there but it was mapped to nothing. I have the notes that I played, but no idea what the synth was. I haven't saved the acd file yet so it technically shouldn't be changed from March when I last used it and it worked fine. Is there something 6 is doing to import files that strips VSTi Information? |

What version of ACID was the project created with? What is the VSTi that is not getting loaded? The more specifics, the better. Peter |

Acid 5 was used to create the file and as for VST, I don't know. I used a bunch of VSTi's in the file, I thought it was MHC Fatsondo, but I could be wrong. The midi track no longer linked to and if the VST's and a few of the VST's were simple showing DLS Soft Synth. It tells me every time I open the file that "VSTi soft synth" was not found, but I think thats just the generic piano vst that isn't it. Its like acid has no memory of whatever was where it says "DLS soft synth" now. |

If a VSTi cannot be loaded, we replace it with the DLS as a place holder. There were some plugins that caused us problems in both ACID 5 and 6.0a/b. The result was that the VSTi would load, but the tracks would not be routed correctly. This was fixed in ACID 6.0c. With out knowing what plugins are causing this problem, it will be hard for us to look into the issue. I assure you that we do save the VSTi info so that the project can be loaded later. It is possible that something in how ACID 6 translates ACID 5 projects is causing the problem. I would need to know what VSTis are causing the problem. I have tried many different plugins and ACID 5 projects loaded into ACID 6 all correctly load and route. If you load the project in ACID 5, the project loads correctly? Could you tell me that way what VSTis were in the original project. (Note, you can have both ACID 5 and 6 installed at the same time with out any problems.) Peter |

I tried reinstalling Acid 5, but unfortunetly it can't seem to find any of the midi files associated with the file. I get a DLS soft synth in 5 as well. What's weird to me is that when I forget to reinstall a VST Acid usually pops up and says "missing Colossus". So I go install Colossus and I'm back in business. This just defaults to DLS without any warning. 6 loads all the midi notes despite not having the midi files. Kind of strange. I can list all my VSTs....there's just a lot.... |

I don't want a list of all of your VSTis. I want to know what you used to create the project that is causing you problems. If you can't provide me with that, and if you don't have all of the original ACID 5 project data , then there is little I can do to help you. Sorry Peter |

Don't mean to sound flippant, but why do you re-install Windoze every few months? If your DAW is not on the internet, you shouldn't have to worry about viruses getting in and corrupting things. There's plenty of people who never re-install the OS and get along just fine. Jack |

Some hosts save the VSTi names and references in their project files. |

My DAW is my computer. I don't have 15 different computers. And even with insane registry sweeps, spyware, etc. Windows just doesn't do as well after a few months. And who cares, its never bitten me in the ass. With the particular project I have installed Windows twice, and the first time there was no problem. I don't know if it was the windows or what...its just plain weird. The file seems to remember everything else besides what played the bassline. Here's the links to the mp3 and the ACID file, I should have posted this right away: http://www.formerfatboys.com/hotd.acd http://www.formerfatboys.com/hotdins.mp3 |
