Giano,

I love when Acid crashes on clean computers. This means you have one or more hardware issues, and it's way more easy to find the culprit.

Please tell me what's INSIDE your computer :

- Motherboard brand & model (e.g. Asus P5B)
- Memory brand & model (e.g. Corsair XMS 2 etc...)
- Soundcard brand & model (e.g. RME, M-Audio, etc...)
- Graphic card brand & model (e.g. Gigabyte X700 etc..)

And If it's a notebook, same thing, brand & model.

Not my OP but this offer is too tempting. This is my old setup:

Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Prescott w/HT
Intel 865PERL
2GB 400 MHz OCZ Dual-Channel DDR RAM
Western Digital 160 & 250 GB ATA hard drives
BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC graphic card
Sony DRU-800a DVD Burner
Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music Edition soundcard
Windows XP Pro

ACID 6.0 crashes on me constantly, even after a clean re-install. Here's my new PC, built just months ago:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz
Gigabyte GA-965P DS3 Motherboard
2GB 800 MHz OCZ Dual-Channel RAM
(2) 250 GB Wesern Digital SATA hard drives (non-RAID setup)
BFG GeForce 7900 GT OC graphics card
Sony DRU-800a DVD burner
Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Music Edition soundcard
Windows XP Pro

ACID 6.0 is STILL crashing on me, even after a couple of clean re-installs. The only components I've kept from my old setup was the DVD burner and soundcard. Everything else is brand-spanking new. So unless it's something to do with these components (or perhaps a driver), then I'm at a lost. Currently working with Sony tech support to try to resolve the issue. Maybe you can shed some light on this? Gawd, I hope so.

Porkjelly;

Some tests for you :
- Check that your drive are DMA enabled :
Right clic on My Computer, go to the Properties, Hardware tab, then clic on the Device Manager button, then under the ATA/ATAPI Ide controllers, check if the Primary and Secondary channels are not in PIO Mode but in DMA mode.

-Burn a CD with the image of Memtest86+
Download Memtest86+, and burn this image with Nero (or similar).
Then run it while booting your system (make sure the DVD is selected as first boot device).
Run at least 2 passes of tests (approx. 30mn per passes for 2Gb).
If you have errors, then check your RAM specs latency and power (in general it is 1.9v, and CAS 5-5-12-5 in the BIOS - google for some forums of owners of your motherboard if you need to know exactly where you can tweak this).
If after these tweaks, your Memtest fails (one or several errors), you should consider changing your RAM modules...

You should also consider checking the user forums of your Gigabyte GA-965P, for the correct tweaks concerining your setup. I've had serious issues with my brand new clean system & Acid or Cubase (Intel Pentium D960; Asus P5WD2-E Premium, 2Gb or Corsair XMS, and a PowerColor Graphic card). Most of it were resolved by correctly tweaking the bios (which surprised me). So my point is that if you build your own system, you have to be very careful about the bios and system tweaks.

(edit) if you could tell us when exactly Acid crashes, this could help.
Keep me up!

Giano (is that italian ?),

Okay, I really trust Toshiba's laptops because they're making good choices for their componments as far as I know (several clients of mine had Satellites Laptops, and never had any single hardware issue).

So I don't think your issue is hardware-related.

Now tell me, when you re-installed Windows XP, was it with the SP2 Update ? And afterward, did you perform all the windows updates via the internet ?
Also, what Anti-Virus are you running ?

For your M-Audio Audiophile, did you install the last drivers ? Latest are the 5.10.5077. Download here.

In Acid Pro, did you correctly selected the M-Audio ASIO drivers instead of your laptop's soundcard drivers ?

Last but not least; you should check if your HDD are correctly DMA enabled, and that no other "third-party" programs are running while making music with Acid Pro. For this, give me the list of programs starting up with your PC using this software. Just copy the list of programs under the "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" gray line.

Keep me up!

Zacchino, my RAM is brand spanking new and I have it entered manually in the BIOS according to manufacturer specs (4-5-4-15). Is this good enough or should I go ahead and run that program. One other thing to note is that ACID was crashing on me constantly (and in the exact same manner) even before I built my new pc.

> I have it entered manually in the BIOS according to manufacturer specs (4-5-4-15).

Then that seems all good. Let's take a look at what programs are running when starting up your notebook. Download this program and tell me what program are showed under the gray line :
"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"

Get the program here : Autoruns.zip

Porkjelly,

I believe you have been in contact with Matt concerning you issues. Not much point in your efforts until we can verify that Matt's fix for your problem has solved your issues.

Please email myself or Matt so we can work out something.

Peter
