I have a Sony Da90esg (digital signal processing receiver), a Technics turntable (1981 model) and lots of old records (60's, 70's and some 80s). I have a new Gateway AMD 64 Bit labtop, Iriver MP3 player and Acid Music Studio software. I am sure that I will never see some of my records on cd. What do I need to transfer my records unto cd? How would I transfer the turntable analog signal unto the computer? And how would I go about it? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am lost. Thanks-Roland

This was just asked last week in the thread "right Sony product for converting vinyl?". There are lots of good suggestions in that thread on what software to use and how to accomplish this with ACID although Sound Forge does come with a vinyl restoration plug-in that would be very helpful to you. If you want to remove the clicks and crackles plan on buying some noise reduction.

As for your turntable, it requires a preamp. That means you need to keep it plugged into your stereo and then take the "tape outs" from your stereo and plug them into the "line-in" of your sound card. You didn't fill in the equipment list on your profile so we have no idea what you have. If you don't have a decent sound card (i.e., you plan to use the built-in motherboard sound chip) you may be disappointed by the results. Motherboard chips are notorious for having a high noise floor for analog recording. You might want to pick up an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 ($99 USD) to make the recording as clean as possible.

Specifically, you need a PHONO PREAMP, or a combo amplier unit with aa phono input. Line out (or Tape out) to soundcard.
