Newbie needs help configuring 6.0...PLEASE -ACID Product Family

I'm having a problem with playback noise. When laying down new tracks, they play back warbled(best word I can think of to describe the sound). This didn't occur at first but just started recently. I'm completly terrified of changing settings, but need to get configured correctly so I can press on. All suggestions will be MUCH appreciated. I'm using a Dell xps 400 w/ 200 gb of hard drive, soundblaster xfi ( solved my latency problems by switching to audio creation mode) but got re-configured in the process by Dell,Creative, and acid help. I did a system restore and solved this problem once a while back, but I tried it again and lost recorded tracks, so had to un-do. Please help me get going with the basics. I don't understand sample rates, drivers, etc, but willing to learn. Thanks... Spider
