Subject:recording is VERY distorted and out of time

I'm simultaneously working my way through the manual, as I try to record my vinyl. But I thought I'd mention an initial issue here. I recorded the other day, and everything came out fine. Today, though, doing everything the same, I thought, the side of vinyl I recorded sounded crazy when I immediately replayed it. Specifically, the track was much, much more distorted than on the original record, AND, it was sped up strangely, at times. The sound was so off that it barely resembled the song. I'm not sure whether this makes a difference, but I'm using a Numark TT USB turntable, which connects to my laptop with a USB connection. Under "default playback device," I have selected Conexant HD Audio output. And under "audio device type," I have selected "windows classic wave driver." Is it possible that one of those settings is off? Any other obvious suggestions? Keep in mind that my recording the other day came out sounding fine (though I had another issue, that seems to have been resolved). |

Just to add to my mystery: the vinyl I recorded was the same vinyl that I recorded yesterday, without any distortion or sound issue.. I assume that I must have accidentally changed some default setting. |

Never mind, people. I think I figured this out, and I'm sorry to waste anyone's time. I tried this again, making one change: I plugged the USB connector in the turntable to a different USB port, and then everything was fine. It's quite possible that those ports are not the same, though they appear that way to me. Maybe one is a firewall? I've never really understood the difference. Not that it really matters at this point. I'll try to figure out things myself first before posting again. |
