It seems these days my only posts are to support a new release, sorry for those that are experiencing problems, but 6c is rock solid for me on dual opteron. 6a/6b were great, much more stable for me than v5, but occasional crashes mostly due to VSTis... and the worst kind of crash where th whole app would just seem to evaporate before your eyes. I've been working with 6c for about a day or so now and no such problems. So thanks once again to Sony for putting the money where it was so badly needed, I was worried that Acid may lose it's path after the acquisition of Sonic Foundry, but actually it's been the opposite. I still hate Sony Media Manager though. Most of my 60,000 samples are my own, the filenames are descriptive enough, and I don't have the time or the energy to go through and classify them in Media Manager. I guess if I had a lot of offiicial Sony loop CDs that might be different. |

I am still skeptical with this version as it has crashed several times on a brand new install of XP, but like you I think this is VSTi related. I also agree that MEdia Manager is a bad thing. The time to go through and classify my own samples is far greater than just naming them well to begin with. I also own a ton of the SF/Sony Acid loop library, but media manager doesn't seem to automatically recognize their tags. Any clues as to why? I'd think Media Manager would have a built-in database that would includ at least their own loop library, if it cannot intelligently/heuristically recognize them when it is staring right at them. Tell me I am missing something, or, better yet, make Media Manager an OPTION when installing? |

nutrapuppy, have you downloaded and selected the Sony library for the media manager? It adds all the info about the Sony loops (well, some of it). I still don't use the media manager. It takes up too much CPU time. However, it's easy to turn it off, and I can see why Sony wanted to protect itself from competition from Apple. |

> I also own a ton of the SF/Sony Acid loop library, but media manager doesn't seem to automatically recognize their tags. Any clues as to why? You have to download and install Sony Loops and Samples Reference Library. You can get that from the ACID Updates page. Once installed, open ACID and go to the Media Manager Media Library Actions button (top right) and select Options.... On the General tab select Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples from the Reference Library drop down. Then press OK. This will activate the library so that all of your Sony loops get tagged correctly. > I'd think Media Manager would have a built-in database that would includ at least their own loop library, if it cannot intelligently/heuristically recognize them when it is staring right at them. It does via the reference library. Unfortunately you have to do this BEFORE you import your loops and you should have gotten a WARNING with a window that gave you a link to the reference library before you imported any loops without. Sony is really good about reminding you to install this so you must have ignored those warnings. Now you have to re-import your Sony media to get it tagged properly. > Tell me I am missing something, or, better yet, make Media Manager an OPTION when installing? Besides missing the reference library, Media Manager actually is an option but not while installing. Once it's installed you can turn it off with Options > Preferences > General tab and uncheck [_] Enable Media Manager (requires ACID restart) ~jr Message last edited on11/10/2006 4:43:32 AM byJohnnyRoy. |
