OTish: Refresh problem with this forum

TeetimeNC wrote on 11/2/2006, 4:31 AM
Does anyone else have problems with this forum site? I've experienced two irritating problems. Maybe it is a setting on my browser, but all other sites work fine for me.

1. Frequently when I am reading a post and click "Back to Vegas Video" the browser just hangs. If I click refresh 2 or 3 times it will usually come back.

2. Occasionally the forum loses my identity when I select to reply to a message. It throws a screen saying I have to be logged in to reply. I was logged in when I selected to reply. The last time this happened I sent a note to tech support. I never heard back from them but the next day it started working again, making me think it may have been a setting on the Sony side.

I'm now running IE7, but this happened with IE6 too. In my ZoneAlarm firewall I have given sonymediasoftware every right that I can (cookies, private headers, etc.).

So, anyone else having these problems? Suggestions?

Jerry

No problem with #1

#2, yes, just as recently as this past week. Had to log in each try. Everything back to "normal" now. Has happened two or three times since first of the year.

I have this problem, and it sees to be related to the use of Zone Alarm Pro. I previously used AVG and the problem did not occur. I remember using Zone alarm before that and if memory serves me it happened then too. I am using Outlook Express. A simple workaround is to click on go at the right hand side of the address bar.

I use ZoneAlarm (not Pro) for years and no problems. Also use Firefox, about .01% of the time I'll use IE, but not here.

I have noticed a few more forum errors lately, where the site won't come up due to a server error. Might be related to #1, or #1 could be your ISP connection (mine is crappy since Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina)

#2 is a cookie problem. A lot of the new privacy tools wipe cookies quicker, thus your need to log back in. Could be something on your machine trashing cookies periodically.

In the last two month, I have been "clipped off" in the middle of a reply.

But that reply crash is real.

Always found this to be about the flakiest forum I've visited.

Pretty regularly links have to be clicked several times.
And yes posts just don't.

Grazie, see, Farss does has sense of humor, a "little bit" of the double edge sword technique, two birds with every punch line.... Just goes to prove, all that fresh air and clear skies doesn't make one too serious.

Well obviously I wasn't referring to the content or the contributors although usually my own humour escapes me.

Now for the Bob award for the MOST flakiest forum, that's have to be the one for the ex vegemites, make of that comment what you will, all I'll say is it's not just the fact that it takes 5 goes before you're allowed to view any post.

All joking aside though, apart form the glitches I've grown to appreciate the simplicity of the design of this forum. Everywhere else seems too cluttered and too obsessed with self promotion with signatures longer than posts, avatars that glare at you endlessly etc.

I think my problem #1 IS related to my switch to Zone Alarm Security Suite, but I don't have the same problem on any of the other 5 or 6 forums I frequent. Ok, so now I know I'm not alone. It's sometimes flakey, but the content makes this site one of my favs.

Using Netscape 7.2 here and never any problems other than once yesterday the forum seemed to be down for 15 minutes or so and after connecting immediately about 15 minutes ago I couldn't view any threads.

But generally no problems whatsoever.
