I just tried two diferent WMV files with V7 trial and have no problem at all. This is on a 3.2GHz P4. Perhaps something already running is consuming too much of the processor/memory??

Good thought, but I'm on a dual 3.2 with 2 G RAM, VV6 works perfectly, and it's only WMVs that are not working, weird. 'ppreciate the reply, I'll mess with it some more.

I don't have a power house workstation and WMV's on the timeline are giving me problems in V7a not demo. They were not a problem with VMS 6.

I have had problems too.

V7 will seem to play the file (WMV) ok at first, then might lock up - no real indication of what it is doing. Forced quit via the task manager.

Hope it's fixed in 7B. If I put a track above a wmv and try to play it, it'll completely lock up WW7.
I'm sure it'll be good later.
Thanks y'all.

I can import a WMV series 7 file but there is no video, just audio. Is Vegas missing a CODEC to mport it? It works fine in WMV 10 player. This is in purchased version, not demo.

What do you mean decrink? - "WMV series 7" Series 7 what?

What do you mean daryl? - " . . it'll completely lock up WW7." WW7?

Anyways, with one of my own home grown Windows Encoded WMV masterpieces I did the following and on the 3 Previewing options: Internal, 2nd Monitor & External Preview JVC Monitor ( meaning via firewire and converter!):

. . all this worked . . and in real time

Track 1
i) Track Motion: 2D and 3D; Rotation and Resizing WMV
ii) Colour Correction of WMV in REAL time

...and then just to be "nasty" ..

Track 2
i) Copy of same WMV file now used as Background
ii) Applied BUMP map to this bg WMV and adjusted in real time too! This DID bring it down to 6fps. But NO stalling and certainly no lack of audio.

Perfect results with Bump Mapped BG and spinning 3-D media on the top. No issues.

AND I Windows Encoded on ANOTHER machine.

WMV comes in several versions, WMV 7,8,9 etc.

It's quite possible these files are from the real WME.

One issue I had long, long ago with WMV files relates to the lack of keyframes. Streaming media may only have one keyframe which causes Vegas for some odd reason to try to buffer the whole file and fall apart. By default Vegas renders WMV with keyframes every 2 seconds, that'd explain why files rendered out of Vegas play fine and real world ones will not.

Solution back then was to re-encode the WMV file through WME adding a keyframe every 1 or 2 seconds. Ran as smooth as silk through V4 then. Changes in how V7 manages RAM might have brought the problem back again. Might be worthwhile trying my fix from yesteryears.

WMP is not a good player. Switch to Nero Showtime before you make a decision.
