Subject:Auto Preview while monitoring an instrument

I'm returning to ACID after 3 years gone. I've had A6 for a few days now.
A quick question for you experts.

I'm monitoring my guitar input with NI Guitar Rig. When I preview a loop, my input track with Guitar Rig gets muted. I have to then un-arm the track and re-arm it to hear it again.
I use this method a lot to get song ideas flowing with Nuendo and Reason's Rex player.
If I drag the loop up I can play both of course but that defeats the purpose of auditioning lots of loops quickly to spark an idea.
What am I doing wrong.

Rick,

This may be a bug. I'll check on this and get back to you in 2 hours.

Rick,

I have tried this with the Guitar Rig with no hiccups.

My setup is:

new project.
set audio device type to ASIO.
create a new track.
remove existing track plug-ins.
place NI Guitar Rig 2 (VST) on the track.
turn track input monitoring "ON".
Arm the track. (Now you hear monitored data)
Browse loops in the explorer.
play a loop in explorer . (hear loop and track monitor)
stop playing (hear track monitor)

repeat...

Is there somthing different about your setup that might be causing this?

Matt,
Thanks for the reply.
What you did is exactly what I did.
I just tried it again and to no avail.

I opened a new project. I'm using a M-Audio FW410 with their ASIO drivers.
I create an audio track. (For some reason Guitar Rig gets defaulted on every new track I add. I looked around in the Preferences and couldn't see anything that would do this.)
I deleted Guitar Rig.
I then place GR in a track FX
I selected my mono in and my input monitor to on. All is well.
I've got the preview section set to Auto Preview.

As soon as I click on a loop I hear a pop and my audio track goes dead.
The "Arm for Record" stays selected and I'm getting signal on the meter but there's no sound.
If I click "Arm for Record" off and on it is back again.

Do you think it's worth Reinstalling ACID to see if it's some kind of install bug?

Here is my system

Music XPC P4 2.8
XP Home SP1
Firewire 410 Driver Ver 5.10.0.5036
Nuendo 2.39
ACID 6.0b
Reason 3
NI Komplete 3
Wavelab 4
Melodyne Sudio 3.1

Matt,
For more info I just tried it again.
I set the "Set Default Track Properties" to just Volume, Track FX, And Input monitor.

Guitar Rig has stopped defaulting but it won't memorize the selected input.
It always defaults to stereo ins.

Preview is still muting however.

All the best,
Rick

Matt,

I put ACID on my wife's Audio Computer and it works the same way.
I have an audio signal from a Yamaha Piano going in, and as soon as I preview an Acid drum loop the channel stops passing audio through.

This leads me to believe that if it's working for you I must have something set differently.

Do you have any idea what to try next?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick,

Ok, here's the scoop:

It's a bug in 6.0b, but not in (the soon to go live on the website) 6.0c - which I was testing at first.

Bottom line: Check the website for the Acid 6.0c update late Friday and that should address this monitoring issue.

Matt,

You Rock!
I'm glad to know that I'll be able to use this feature, and that it's not something we have to track down.
I'll look for the 6.0c update.

All the best,
Rick
