Subject:"Rewire" Crash on Render

So I've been experiencing a recurring crash when rendering a particular project. Other projects haven't been exhibiting the same problem.

No plug-ins active (of any kind -- other than the default EQ, and they're just default flat since I've just started on the project).

The render gets to 8% (about 20 sec of audio) and then crashes out, bringing down ACID. Often there's an XP dialog to send crash info to MS, but there's also the ACID crash window with lots of data (in hex methinks), and then three pop-ups which moan about a Rewire problem. Since I don't have rewire (and as far as I know, ACID doesn't support it), I suspect it's a cute internal SONY/Madison code-monkey term for something. But what? That's what I'm trying to find out.

Anyone else seen this particular problem?

ACID absolutely DOES support ReWire if it's a current version (5 or 6, not sure about 4) and the error you are getting is probably because your audio interface isn’t being shut down properly during the crash so the rewire DLL is complaining but it has nothing to do with ReWire at all.

It’s important to know the reason for the crash. The “hex” stuff will tell Sony exactly where the crash occurred. You might want to save it next time (cut and paste or do a screen capture) so that you can show Sony tech support.

Ah. That's good to know. I did in fact copy/paste the stuff to SONY Tech support. I was just wondering if anyone had the same problem.

My system has been shut down (finally) for the first time in a few weeks, so when it gets a restart I'll see if it's causing the same problem.

I've found a work-around. I opened a second instance of ACID, copied and pasted the project in. No problems rendering.

Saving the original project to an .acd-zip resulted in an empty file of 26k with a blank project on opening.

Saving the second instance (re: good) project to an .acd-zip resulted in a 26MB working project.

I've left the trouble report open, since my guess is that there was some mayhem with my plugins (probably Izoptope Trash) which was conflicting with the rewire.dll - even though I wasn't using any Rewire (or have any rewire) plug-ins.

Problem fixed, but mystery not solved.
