This is very difficult with Sound Forge. It's just not able to do this task on it's own. Sound Forge is like a stereo tape deck. It either records or plays. It can't do both at the same time. One odd workaround is to make the first recording, then play that back in Windows Media Player or any other audio playing software, set your sound card to record "stereo out", "what u hear", or "mixed output", and record the playback along with your new material in Sound Forge. You could repeat this process as many times as you wish to build up multiple parts. It's not a good way to work because there's no way to go back and change the mix of the previously recorded parts. If you mess up at any point, you have to go all the way back to the pass before the mistake and redo everything after that. Better yet is to look into a multitrack audio program like SONY's Vegas. |

good suggestion, multitrack recording is needed. Vegas is fine or many other options ranging from freeware (Kristal v1, Audacity) to cheap (N-Tracks, Reaper, Cakewalk Home Studio, Samplitude SE) to Cubase, Sonar, Samplitude Classic or Pro etc. I use Cubase SX3 and love it, but that might be overkill for your needs, I heavily use MIDI in my work, so Vegas is not suitable for me (although for audio only it is a good choice) and Acid's MIDI is not that great either. |
