RME Fireface... anyone?

Is anyone here using the RME Fireface 800 or 400?

I'm looking to pick-up a new audio interface and this is really looking like "the one"... Except I know there were problems with Sony and the Hammerfall line. So if anyone has any experience with the sony products and the Fireface can you post them here?

Thanks,
Tim Burton

I use RME Multiface with CardBus interface on a Sony notebook computer to do live recordings of 5.1(6 ch) at 24/96 with excellent results, and edit using another Multiface with PCI interface. Both work fine. The notebook is only an 800Mhz system, but cruises along about 20% CPU recording the 6 ch. I have to point out though, that I use Vegas 4 on that machine. I tried Vegas 5, and it provided a couple of unwanted glitches in the sound, requiring me to provide CD's from backup DAT. Vegas 4 has worked for many concert recordings flawlessly. For editing after the fact, I do use Vegas 7.

Not sure why anyone would dump on RME, their gear works great, imho.

fireface 800 with vegas 6, haven't had any problems.

this is still amd and nVidia nforce3 chipset, more problems were reported later with 939 socket and nFoce4 chipsets, and that is where most of your problems will lie, the chipset or firewire interface on the MB or pci card..

Also used it briefly with an ASUS laptop, using on board firewire. Worked fine with Vegas. AVID on the other hand ( for video editing ) choked when trying to lower latency.

Thanks guys... This is good to hear. I'm going to plan on continuing down the FireFace route.

I might be switching to Cubase for more intense audio, but I would really like things to work with Sony's software as well - Vegas and Acid are such great apps.
