OT: What are you doing?

Just curious as to what kind of work you all are doing. I mean, I know it has SOMEthing to do with Vegas, but what? Local TV station, indie films, weddings, teaching, etc. Any business owners out there?

Personally, I'm doing both audio and video primarily in the collegiate environment - fimling events around campus/town & producing the dvd for it. Also editing the music if need be.

Again, just asking. Thought it would be good to share some ideas.

I'm making a 2-hour documentary on a Choir tour through France this past summer. Shot in HDV with 4-channel surround audio. Finished format will be DVD, though with an upgrade to some HD format when one becomes commonly available.

Did two children's albums recently, recorded a classical pianist on Vegas laptop at a chapel at a local university, finished a professional storyteller's CD last week, finishing mixing a 16 song CD of my own stuff, editing a virtual tour video for the college campus where I work. Other video work in the hopper...

Well, I am trying to create watchable videos of my son's first 18 months. I have about 12 hours of MPEG2 footage to edit. Then I have 4 hours of DV to work with (my second son's first year).

Lots of colour correction to do, and there's a problem with field order/interlacing, so it's taking a long time.

But it's a great way to learn Vegas.

After this, I intend to work on something that will generate me some income...

My current movie project, a 36 minute short documentary, The Cowboys of Florida has been playing the festival circut. We've won a couple of prizes and get great reactions from the public. As a result of these sceenngs we have raised einojugh money to exand the film to feature length.l

So I am sleepless tohight , a little stoned on ambian, trying to get to sleep, my head filled with fire and great scenes to be created out in the wild prairie.

I dream of thashing rainstorms and cattle huddled together l- held in a bunch by drenched yapping dogs as the water teams everwhere. I can'tget these scenes out of my mind and it keeps me awake.

The ambian is definitely kicking in now, so I'll stagger off to bed, with visions of horse ponines dancing thru my brain.

MTV style music video for a beautiful young 16 old girl on her birthday. Her family wanted something about 4-5 minutes in length that included baby and growing up footage as well as her today that she could show her friends without being embarrassed. Music being done with Acid. Handheld look is quite a gimmick; basically I just act as if I forgot to shut the camera off (alright I'm exaggerating).
Out of town wedding in two weeks and a precocius 6 years old's Bday bash with clowns, band and mayhem this weekend. I'll find out then how resistant to ice cream my A1U is.

Cleaning up old video footage for a friend. It is a 13-year old VHS transfer of 1950's 8mm home movies from Tripoli and Rome. In other words, it's very bad footage, handheld, scratches, dust, blown out lighting. Basically learning a lot about frameserving, AVISynth plugins. Using V6 for that project.

All the while poking around V7, and going over my own nature footage I have stacked up.

Ok, I'll chime in here even though I'm very new to this forum -- I've been a Vegas Movie Studio use for the past year and a half.

I'm trying to find the time to get back to editing a project I shot this summer: a 2-week backpacking trip with my son's Boy Scout troop to the Philmont Scout Ranch in the mountains of New Mexico. (A very cool trip for someone from the rural flatlands of southwest Ohio... But very, very hard work.)

I bought a tiny, little Canon Elura 100 just for the trip (very small and lightweight!). No electric for the 11 days we were actually on the trail, so I had to ration batteries very, very carefully. Got probably 4 hours of video altogether, including the 36-hour train rides out and back, and time in base camp before hitting the trail, and after getting back from the trail.

In first 3 weeks back home, I edited a 22-minute "highlights" film, mostly set to music (the legal, buyout kind...). Turned out pretty nice -- we projected it on a "big screen" at the church where we meet, and I made DVD's for the boys.

Now I've got to get back to producing the "extended version", or directors cut, with a lot more detail of the things we were doing.

I've got a ton of ideas floating around in my head about stuff I'd like to add. I want to put a fake "behind the scenes" type thing at the end that shows how we "made the movie" -- show a couple boys with backpacks in front of a green screen, how we added in footage in post to make it look like they were up in the mountains, etc. Show someone stepping in to touch up makeup, spritz them to make them look sweaty. Talk about "the actor that plays Chris in the film...", etc. About how we had to train the boys to get it to look like the packs they carried were really heavy (though the behind the scenes footage reveals that the packs are really just filled with balloons.)

Show some deleted scenes: how we considered killing off one of the characters with a tragic fall off the mountain, but decided we didn't want the movie to go in that direction.

Insert a commercial for a new CD: "The Absolute Best Hiking Songs Ever". Of course, these songs included traditional hiking songs like: Danny Boy, Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie", songs from the Little Mermaid, etc. (Hey, I'm not much of a singer, but it did take the boys' minds off the hard work and drudgery of the uphill climbs.)

So, probably like everybody else here -- lots of ideas, and never enough time.

I did this too, recently. I didn't do any frame serving, though. Instead, I used one of the supplied clips to export the individual frames as stills, then used Paint Shop Pro X to batch clean them up.Then importd the image sequence back into Vegas and rendered the final project to SVCD.

Pretty good results, too. Mind you, the original film was only 3 minutes long...

I am finishing up a wedding I filmed back in June and working on a photo mosaic project for a local private school here that they intend to auction off to raise funds. I also just finished a photo montage for a lady I go to church with to give to her father that she just became reaquainted with as he has not been a part of her life since shortly after birth. She wanted to give him something that showed him what he missed out on with her growing up and she also wanted to let him know that she does want him back in her life and she has forgiven him. It turned out to be a great little photo montage with her own personal humor tied into it.
This weekend- back to the wedding. This was the longest wedding event I have ever filmed- 3 days worth and well over 14 hours of footage.

What my wife and I do is BBQ; Competitions, Vending, Catering & Teaching class.

Working on an educational DVD and some short promo ads for the web and local cable. Recently upgraded to HVR-A1U & Vegas 7/Cinescore from TVR520 and VMS6.

Seesaw productions did a short on us for FoodTV and I'm using that as a benchmark for quality as they set a high bar.

Mainly weddings shot over the summer. Have a few left to finish out the year between now and November. Unless of course some last minute jobs pop up. Shot some interesting video for my church recently including a presentation by Terry Law and Former Iraqi General Georges Sada about Iraq and Afganistan. The Z1 did a fantastic job! Now, if I could only peak and zebra at the same time... :) That clunky horizontal switch is my only beef with the camera.

Until recently I was the senior technician at a duplication/editing/authoring boutique. Now I am the night crew, which is cool because I get to do a little of all of the above. I made the switch so I could stay home with my kids during the day. On weekends, I'm currently doing my best to finish a wedding I shot over the summer (you might guess I don't have time to do it during the week any longer).

Looking forward to the next 24 hour film fest...

We are in the final stages of rendering an edutainment documentary about the video game industry. The industy, the technology, and the future. All the big boys took part and was very informative. Mixing interview footage with video game footage, voice over etc.
