1st 2 Minutes of Star Wars, Done All in Vegas

Jonathan Neal wrote on 9/19/2006, 1:20 PM
Well, we talked about making the Star Wars text in Vegas without any third party plug-ins, so here you go. The main file, tutorial_star.wars.scrolling.text.zip, uses a child *.veg file to load the text. There are no external graphics; it all happens in Vegas and it all stays in Vegas. By the way, if you have an audio copy of the Star Wars theme song it would fit perfectly - i've now included a sample WMV and the song plays there :)

Here is a WMV movie of the effect. Remember, NOTHING outside of what is included with Sony Vegas was used to create this, and there are NO external files either.

Yes, well done, although at the end I was waiting for the toaster to appear.

"SONY VEGAS" is filled with black? Wasn't it transparent in the movies (haven't seen it i na while)

Very nice though! Excelent work!

The .veg files will not open for me - version 6.0d "unsupported format"

very nice! and amusing too.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/20/2006, 9:34 AM
it's a v7 file.

I only own Movie Studio (and v6 at that - however the upgrade offer makes upgrading to full Vegas 7 +DVDA4 a must) but I would have thought this could easily achieved by setting the colour of the font to transparent rather than black.

However, as I can't read vegs it may not have been done this way and so might not be possible.

That's the best one i've seen yet, the real small disappearing text was excellent.

How did Lucas manage to accomplish this 30 years ago without Vegas 7???

:)

Very nice BTW, and what are you trying to tell us here, that Sony doens't need a better titler? jk

:)
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/20/2006, 11:10 AM
it could be easily filled, that's why Iwas asking. I honestly don't remember. :)

Very nice example. I thought I knew a bit about Vegas but it took me some time to find the track motion that was doing the heavy lifting with the text plane. I wasn't aware of the changes you could make to the geometry. Very cool!

And thanks!

Could someone possibly make it into a version 6.0 .veg ? - I can't afford 7 at this time.

Change the text to yellow and add in the stars in the background and ya pretty much got it dead on....

And oh yes, the STAR WARS logo at the beginning wasn't transparent, it was filled with black....

....I really need to get a life.

Ahem, they are there. Perhaps your version of Windows Media Player isn't picking them up very well, my friend had the same problem. Have you seen the Veg? I used a noise texture to create the stars, they look dead on.

Actually, that is the color of the text for the new trilogy, however, just for you, in an hour or so I will render out a version with text OT colored and the stars brighter.

I almost expected to see the Vegas box fly into the view.

One tiny little nit - "Firepower" is one word.

Sorry for redundancy but can someone make a .veg for version 6.0d?
TIA!! ((Garo))
Jonathan Neal wrote on 9/21/2006, 1:41 AM
As I told you in my email, Garo, I will try to get one published tonight. It's 1:40am here and I've had some distractions. One main distraction being that today was my birthday.

UPDATE: I've been kidnapped by a group who call themselves 'friends'. These 'friends' tell me that I must observe a said tradition which they refer to as 'hang out', where I will be forced to watch Steven Colbert, Jon Stewart, Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, and whoever their other idol gods are.

In the meantime, here is an updated sample WMV with an Original Trilogy color scheme and brighter stars. I even added an unnoticeable film grain to really seal the deal. Don't say I don't care!

It was the .veg file for 6.0 rather than Vegas 7.0 I was asking for - the wmv works fine.
