Hi,

I have been pretty busy working away, not much web time..But did a quick skim and see the new version of DVD Architect does not support Blu-ray ?? Is that true?? If so it seems like a critical mistake that a Sony product which is used by so many people here who are the Content Creators, who could help plant the seed and to germinate this new media to the Consumers out there???

Whats the strategy here?? Is it a mistake??

Nope, no BD for DVDA4. I agree its a big big mistake by Sony seeing how Adobe is reportedly releasing next gen authoring in a October update. Either way Im covered.

Yeah, it seems as if Sony forgot about Blu-Ray----I'm shocked in that the players are slowly coming to market. Maybe its planned for Vegas 8.0---sometime next Fall--or maybe Winter.

If you can't author HD or Blueray discs I find it hard to imagine they wouldn't add it in a point release. They can't wait a year and a half on this.

Blu-Ray?...
I was also looking into this... until I saw the price of the Discs. I'll wait for the Bugs to be worked out of any software that claims to burn Blu-Ray. It's a bit too rich for my blood to be a beta tester on this one.

Besides... We're yet to have anyone ask for an HD Disk... much less a Blu-Ray disk.
I don't think the Blu-Ray players have hit my market hard enough to warrant Blu-Ray authoring here yet. Hopefully by the time they do... all the wrinkles will be ironed out.

Hello,

What worries me, is the Final Cut Studio app used for DVD Authoring already has HD DVD Authoring, and has had it for quite some time.. I can only think back to what happened in the classic Beta/VHS blunder.. And also the way Windows PC versus the Apple went down in the beginning, with Windows becoming an open system, where the hardware could be made or sold by just about anybody, versus keeping a closed proprietary system..
I would think this would have been a great opportunity for Sony to "Open" up this market to the Creators .. To produce content for the Consumers.. i know its early in the game.. but seems now is the time..

Hyperlinks & Document Links in DVD's... to make them truly interactive... when are we gonna get that?

I'm tired of having to either go to eDVD or altogether author in DVD Studio Pro

Transitions?

I'm also tired of having to build a whole nother movie to create a DVD transition.
Other apps have them... why can't we?

There are two types of HD-DVD authoring. Type 1 is incredibly easy to implement since it's basically just an enhanced version of the current DVD standard, and no doubt what a lot of extant authoring applications will initially support (or do support).

iHD is quite a bit more to implement; BD is also quite different, and no doubt one of the reasons that Sony's "Blu-Print`" authoring package costs $50,000.

It's my understanding that a lot of the HD-DVD titles currently available were rolled by hand (kindof like "real web authors write directly in HTML") and is very similar across titles. I've not seen much about the BD titles.

IMO the reason you aren't seeing any WYSIWYG or "consumer" type authoring applications is that it's simply too early in the curve. Media is darn expensive, burners are expensive; players are darn expensive and the advanced authoring capabilities are totally different than what came before - closer to designing a web site using all the latest web technology than creating a traditional DVD.

I aggree athough I look forward to the BD or HD-DVDs
, there just isnt the market out there to justify the cost of the burner even at this point.
Format wars, cost of players ...all to early for me to care whether its in DVDA4 yet, besides who's to say that the support for that cant come out in a future REV of the 4th edition.
HDV is the technology I am looking for improvements and enhancements on . It provides great downsampling for current and mainstream DVD content(what pretty much everyone has), fits (formats)into what is out there now ie: 16x9 format T.V.s, and if someone wants to view it in high def there is options be it WMV or for when I've wanted to impress, playing it from the cam or a HDV deck.
