Those that know, can't tell you.

Those that will tell you, don't know. ;)

Edit: Okay, that's not exactly right, since V7 was demo'd at a convention recently, so anyone who was there could probably tell you something. Just browse through the forum -- there's been plenty of talk about it.

Looks like the same stuff that has been released already to me.

This is one time where I have not seen anything official or seen a beta, so for once I can say something. If I knew anything at all, I would say nothing! (Dumb can be fun)

The article makes a big deal out of a lot of things that are in Vegas already. You would be surprised how many people who have Vegas or know of it don't have a clue how much power is there. Marketting just doesn't use the same misleading buzz words as everyone else. I give Sony and Madison a lot of respect for not using the misleading tactics or playing word games and still delivering powerful and flexible tools. Most of what you read is in your hands now.

The notable new item rumored there is XDCAM support in a big way. For most, that is no big thing, but with the Sony XDCAM HD cameras, I like it for news aquisition in the near future. If I came into money, I would move from HDV to XDCAM HD in a heartbeat. I like it better than the other mid-level options. That said, while I do not know that for certian, I would suspect that improved XDCAM would be a good candidate for 7.

While SDI support is there, it would make sense that they would continue to improve it. The same can be said for many items that I always expect Madison to continue to improve. They have proven that over and over. It is not just new features that drive them, but a constant climb to make what their products do better.

Of all of the rumors, I see the additions to DVDA as the big story. DVDA 1 came out as a very basic tool. Realiable and solid, but basic. I used it because it was stable and I could count on getting through a task without crashing. Each release of DVDA has pushed its feature set closer to matching the best of the tools. The addition of scripting, while I do not know if it is true, would be very exciting to me. That was the only thing that I couldn't do in DVDA that I really wanted. All the changes in DVDA that this article rumors could be possible since similar code had to be developped (I am ASSUMING) to develop the high end tools for Blu-Ray. That doesn't make it true, just exciting rumor.

In short, I read articles like that one with the attitude of rumor. They list too many things that are already present like they are new. The second reason is that in any software development where, like the guys and gals at Madison, the developpers like to deliver a stable and usable tool; there is a last minute clause. If the night before a release, something just can't be beaten into submission, it has to be removed. If something new happens to stablize late in the game, it goes in because you want the best.

Leaks and rumors are not good indicators of what a final release will be. We will hear for sure what makes it out when it is released. Then Sony will not be quiet about it!

Speculation is fun, but remember that the only correct source will be what shows up on the Sony web site AFTER it is on our computers.

Is it Christmas yet?

That's because that is how those items were listed when Sony briefly had a "teaser" for Vegas on this very website. There were several things marked as "new" that looked, on the surface, like stuff we've already got.

Can't blame the article's author for simply regurgitating Sony's own words. ;-)

Probably yes,
they tend to release details to the media a little ahead of the official launch so publishers can meet deadlines. I seem to recall this happening on previous releases.

jbjones, yes I am pretty sure those specs are correct, good find!

bStro, I bet you are salivating for the day you can just talk V7 up, your post is actually more exciting than jbjones. It's so ... mysteriously revealing! You know it!

epirb, I smell confirmation!

kkolbo, is there anyone on these forums who has said they actually played with V7? I would love to read users reactions to the new product. Specs are fun, but playing with toys is the point.

farss, it's been kinda funny seeing some posts suddenly disappear while others like this one live on. These specs are basically a compilation of every other spoiler I've spotted here on these forums. Methinks Cliff is among us.

From what I know from Sony customer support, Vegas 7 will be out tomorrow (Sept 7), so possibly only a few more hours until it's revealed.

Um, huh? My statements were nothing more than observations based on what's already been posted on this forum.

Doesnt passing the Sony cert test make the Beta available to those guys?
bStro wrote on 9/6/2006, 4:11 PM
Heh. No. Maybe for Vegas 8.

I could have sworn that I read when Sony offered the certs that the perks for those passing it in the begining would be given access to upcoming new versions (betas) first.
farss wrote on 9/6/2006, 4:31 PM
Realistically knowing the specs doesn't amount to much.
It's only after someone instalss it and finds out just what they mean and what can be done with them that we'll really know what's in there.

Reading the specs so far I'm slightly more optimistic, it does seem that at last we've got proper BWF support, that alone is worth the asking price.

If they've also managed to get the SDI support working properly on the audio side then I'll have no complaints about value for money.

All that aside I'd still like to have had the option to plonk down a wad more cash (5x to 10x) to get MORE!

Hm... Just pulled up the announcement e-mail that I received in June, and the bennies it lists are:

A certificate and logo files
Listing in the Sony Certification Directory
Discounts on Sony Media Software products and training

Haven't gotten any news on the directory or the discounts yet.

As for access to beta versions, I don't recall reading that anywhere. At any rate, I imagine they were pretty much done with beta testing of Vegas 7 by the time the the certification tour even started.

Oh please don't be screwing with us man, for some reason this sentence has got me all excited. I know what I'll be doing tonight around 12:01, can anyone confirm this?
p@mast3rs wrote on 9/6/2006, 4:58 PM
Agreed. I have the credit card already for purchase.
WillBellJr wrote on 9/6/2006, 5:01 PM
Yes, for someone on the hobbyist level, I certainly don't see much added either...

The only "good" changes I see are to Architect but with the likes of DVDLab Pro v2, even the advancements made with DVDA are dulled...

The ONLY thing I liked about the DVDA trial was the fact I could >preview< out to my TV set to see EXACTLY how the DVD menus and such were going to look - that's IT. But the lack of power (again compared to DVDLab Pro) shorted me from upgrading my Vegas 6 to the +DVD version...

Now, I can almost see that upgrade being worth it (since I would then have the 5.1 dolby plus the live preview) but I'll see how the trials feel to me before any monae drops...

Well, I don't know if it will be available at 12:01, but I'm guessing sometime Thursday.

And again, I could be wrong, but this is the date I was told last week and I posted this date last Friday.
p@mast3rs wrote on 9/6/2006, 5:17 PM
Well it would make sense if Sony is officially announcing the release tomorrow at the show. In the past, the trial was available the morning of the announcement date.
