Building a new Vegas PC

When Vegas 7 is released, I am planning on building a new PC to do all of my video editing. My hope is to build something that will handle high definition with ease, so I am looking at something along the lines of a dual dual xeon with a raid setup and a blue ray burner. Everything seems to stem from the processor - once you pick the processor, then you can pick the motherboard and ram, etc. So, I am wondering if anyone knows of any good resources where I could read thoughts on building best pc from current equipment to build a Video Editing workstation. Many thanks.

Do a search. It seems there have been a great deal of similar topics discussed recently.

I recently upgraded my machine from a single core Intel P4 2.4 with 1.5GB PC133 SDRAM to an AMD 3800 X2 AM2 socket with now 4GB DUAL Channel RAM. Today is the first day of running XP Pro 64 bit and other than searching for the driver for my Rosewill PCI Raid card, everything went smooth. Is much more snappy than the 32 bit version of XP Pro. So far, no hiccups on on the install of my apps other than the oddball install folder being program Files (x86).

Befor eI installed XP 64, I installed the the second 2GB ram and XP Pro saw it as 3.25GB without having to edit my boot.ini file - suprised me to say the least.

With the rumors of the huge install of Vista along with the price tag, I figured I would go XP 64 bit for the time being and so far, all is well.

AMD dual core and 64 bit XP work very well together.

I am trying to future proof my NLE by going AM2 socket since that is AMD's current road map. I'll be able in utilize any AM2 socket processor and my Mobo has 16GB max RAM capability. there were a few hiccups along the way, but overall, I'm impressed with what this machine is doing - encodes with Windows Media encoder literally scream! I'm going to give it a shot now in 64 bit mode to see if it is any faster...

HD is now a reality for me...
