Acid should be compatible with other audio apps ... Either for another version, or as a standalone app (THAT would be grand ... a 'utility' to convert any version of Acid's tracks to txt) - I think it is only reasonable that sony provides this functionality to it's users, who more and more, are collaberating with other musicians that have their own home recording studios with their own software set-up. For example, if I want to bring my tunes to another studio that isn't running acid, I should be able to save them in a manner that will, at the very least, allow me to open it up in Vegas or Pro Tools, or Cubase etc etc. I'm completely boggled as to why acid and Vegas aren't even somewhat compatible considering thier workflow is nearly identical. Are you serious??? Let's see, where shall we begin ... txt is a text format, nothing to do with audio. There are standards for music - .wav for audio, .mid for MIDI. Acid reads/writes these standards. You can export files from Acid and use them in other apps. Cubase??? Do you realise that Cubase has it's own audio file standard, and you can't open a Cubase audio file with an external editor (like you can in Acid)? ... please tell me you were having me on? |

I think he means EDL, which when exported from Vegas will give a ".txt" extension to the file name. I would also like to see Acid support EDL, so I can move my Vegas audio projects to Acid (which is supposedly Sony's strategic "DAW" platform now). I for one find it beyond annoying that it is easier to move my Vegas projects to a $40 shareware editor (Reaper) than it is to Sony's own "professional" Acid. Cheers, Randy |

Then load these files into tracks in Vegas, ProTools, Cubase, whatever. ~jr |

Rendering each track to a new file is all well and good, however, I want to retain the 24-bit 48Khz quality I started with ... so I end up having to either combine takes, or manually cut all of the silence in each track again so that my CPU doesn't die right off the bat EDL is what I meant ... yes .. and yeah, like pro tools, Cubase it splits each take up into two seperate wave files - one for the Left Channel, and one for the right channel. Acid just uses standard stereo wave files, like Vegas - which is good, but then you can't manipulate each side of a stereo channel to the same degree and you have to manually split the wave file into L and R, and add use up two tracks if you want to do so, which doesn't really bother me much since I don't do it very often. Not argueing the fact that acid needs this stuff from vegas but...you still have the option of exporting/tweaking/importing the audio file to/from soundforge. Only takes a few seconds.[the old fashion way] Again...not argueing. I would like to see this too. Ed. |

.you still have the option of exporting/tweaking/importing the audio file to/from soundforge. Only takes a few seconds.[the old fashion way] indeed this is how you would have to do it this way for lack of other choices ... I am finding that Acid's abilities, while having improved by leaps and bounds over previous versions, still don't give people the "full daw" experience. To be fair, In fact, there is only one program on the market right now that is a truely on the way to becommming a truely full in-the-box DAW |

--To be fair, In fact, there is only one program on the market right now that is a truely on the way to becommming a truely full in-the-box DAW--- Sorry but I'm not going to bite and even ask "which one". [I know the app your referring to] Question:[and in no way trying to flame or get flamed] With ALL the progress in the video side with vegas...AND ALL thats been "so far" done in acid...Why do you feel that the next version of acid's audio upgrade to 7 is going to be a let down? Not to get off on a rant but if you haven't noticed there are alot of audio apps that IMHO are already "there". While other apps are playing catchup. Using the word "truely" in your statement is wrong. Each R&D team watchs very closely to the development of the others...why??? Because what can be done for one can easily be done for the others. Each dev.cycle of a app is a leap frog of the others. Sure at this point someone may have the upper hand with a "bullet item" feature...but guess what they've shown their hand to the others. Look at sonar users... Most were doubting that they were even going to upgrade to version 6 because they "already have everything they need". How is sonar not a "true in the box daw"??? How will your "truely" app compete with this? In the end we will all use the app that suites us best individually. And no amount of BS back talking/host war/I have better "xxx" feature is going to change anything. Just keep writing music and be happy. Ed. |
