I searched the forum and couldn't find that this has happened before. I have a track that has several events for the vocals (I just punched-in the lyrics). I'm using Waves Renn Bundle. If I insert one of the plug-ins on the track and place the cursor in the event, it will crash Acid as it reaches the end of the event. It shows the 'Exception' dialog and then BAM...Acid is gone. It also crashes if you place the cursor before the event and hit play. I think the proper activation message isn't getting to the plug-in. It will also crash at the end of any event w/ a Waves Plug-in even if the event is project-long. It does it for both One-Shot & BeatMapped events. It doesn't crash if I put the plug on a Bus and send the Track to that Bus, which is sort of a limited work around. Waves seems to be the only plugs (on my system) that do this in Acid. Also. It doesn't do this in Vegas. If anyone has experienced this, or if there is a better work around, I appreciate the help. If not...then could Sony please put this one on their 'Punch List'. Hi RMS, Yes, I have experienced the same thing using Acid 6.0 and Waves plugs. I couldn't actually troubleshoot my problems down like you did. However, I am sure that an Acid track that had a Waves EQ plug-in was the cause of a corruption that occured in that song. It also seems to occur if you copy a track that has a Wave EQ plug on it. For instance, if I copy a vocal track that has a Waves EQ plug on it, it will at times cause my system to become unstable. This is all I can tell you right now about my problems. At least now I know it is not something I am doing wrong that is causing the problem to occur. |

Thank you Nubs. Now at least I, too, know it's not just my system. I'm wondering if it might be an iLok driver issue if others aren't having problems. Sony... Have you had any more of these reports? Thanks, Dan |

Hello All What version of Waves plugins are you using and what plugins exactly (ie, order, stereo)? Also are you using Acid 6.0a? George Ware Message last edited on8/7/2006 5:47:22 PM byMacMoney. |

>>Have you had any more of these reports? No, this is the first I have heard of such things. There are no bug reports against the Wave stuff. We will look into it. If you could provide some exact details - exactly which plugins. The more details of exactly what you do and how your system is configured - ASIO, Wave Classic, drivers and audio hardware, Waves Presets, etc, etc - that would prove most helpful. Thanks Peter |

I posted about this awhile ago. It seems to no longer be a porblem in 6.0a. Back then, I fixed it by deleting all instances of the plugin causing the trouble. And then adding them to a bus rather than to the actual track and then running the track into the bus. Its kinda the long way around but it worked. However, I have not had issue with 6.0a. If you haven't upgraded, do it. Sony should have called 6.0 a beta release and released 6.0a as the first official release. good luck. Also, using the DX version of my WAVES plugs didn't cause the same error, just the VSt ones. |

"Waves VST plugins do not work in sony apps, only the DX versions". "Waves did this not Sony!" Good point, George, as the WAVES VST versions don't always work right, in other apps like SONAR 5 either! I tell everybody to just use the DX versions. As you know the WAVES plugins are native DX coded and just use their "own VST wrapper", WavesShell-VST.dll to work in VST apps anyway. Just use the DX versions, as they were designed. I've always used the WAVES DX versions, since................... the ACID Pro 1.0 days anyway. So why change now! Billy Buck Message last edited on8/8/2006 5:33:18 PM bybillybk. |

Thanks for the replies. dirtynbl: Your post made me realize that I dowloaded 6.0a when it first came out, but was to busy at work and never installed it! But... It didn't make much of a difference. It doesn't crash at the end of the event any more, but does after you hit the 'Stop' button after the event (but not IN the event). It still crashes if I place the cursor before the event and hit 'Play'. MacMoney: You replied again as I was writing this! I tried to use ALL the plug-ins in the RennMaxx Bundle. Dx... NOT VST. I didn't even install the VST's. It does this for even a single plug-in. As I said, any of them. SonyPCH (Peter): I will get you the detailed information as soon as I can. As I said to dirtynbl, I have been very busy at work (as all of us probably are), so it may be a week for the details...but here goes of my head; *- P4 3.2GHz *- 80GB system drive *- 200GB Audio drive *- Acid 6.0a *- as stated in original post, Waves RennMaxx Bundle. All Plug-ins (Dx); preset does not matter; current iLok driver. *- Presonus Firepod- most current Presonus ASIO drivers and firmware. *- The conditions that cause this are stated fully in my original post with the addition at the beginning of this post as to the "difference" the 6.0a upgrade made. I would be happy to supply any addtional information or try to reproduce it in Acid in any way you want me try (to try and track it down). Please, just request it in this thread, and I will be happy to do so. BTW...I love Vegas and Acid. I just can't wait 'till they quit 'livin' together' and actually get 'married'! Thanks for all the help and time, Dan |

SonyPCH, Here's the error report; AppName: acid60.exe AppVer: 6.0.0.305 ModName: acid60k.dll ModVer: 6.0.0.305 Offset: 000b5b0c It will crash in a fresh project with one audio track in the ways stated above. It does not crash in Acid 5.0c. I also am having problems loading a VST Instrument in 6.0b that loads fine in 5.0c. I will start another thread on this. As I've said. If you need any more of my system info, let me know. Thanks for your time, Dan |

Hi George, The VST instrument (although not actually an instrumrnt) is MIDI Quest Patch (Sound Quest, Inc.); it's the Vyzor VoiceWorks.dll. It controls my TC-Helicon VoiceWorks settings through MIDI. It works great in 5.0, but doesn't even load into 6.0b. Well, it did load once. But when i tried to insert it, POOF the VSTi was gone and never showed back up. It did not crash Acid 6.0b when this happened, though. These are obviously problems with the VST implementation in Acid 6.0...otherwise it wouldn't work in Acid 5.0, Cubase, etc. as it does on the same machine. As to Charlie's post... I think you should have started another thread. This one is about Waves crashing Acid 6.0, as relating to events. SonyPCH: If I can gather any more usefull information, please request it. Unfortunately we don't have the MIDI Quest tools or the TC products you describe and are having problems with. We will try to obtain hardware and software to test with, but it is unlikely that TC will send us hardware. It is also unlikely that this is a TC-Helicon VoiceWorks issue. What version of MIDI Quest are you using? Have you contacted Sound Quest regarding this issue? I have sent them an email. Peter |

Hi Peter, I probably should not have responded to MacMoney's question in this thread as it seemed to 'hijack' this thread. But, he was curious. The thread started and is still about Waves crashing in Acid 6.0b. Works fine in Vegas, Acid 5.0, Cubase, etc. but NOT the new flagship 6.0. I will start another thread about the VSTi. If you wanted to test it though, the software is free. You don't need the hardware to see that the VSTi doesn't showup, or load, as it did show up once. But this thread is still about the Waves crashing at event ends, or, if you hit play while the cursor is before or after the event. If it works in your other Apps, even the 'old' 5.0, and other vendors apps, then it's an issue with 6.0, obviously (I know I'll catch some flack for this statement !), as 'Nubbs' is having the exact same problems. I posted the error message a few posts back. Here it is again: AppName: acid60.exe AppVer: 6.0.0.305 ModName: acid60k.dll ModVer: 6.0.0.305 Offset: 000b5b0c I will start the other thread (about the VSTi) when i have time to gather more info for you (version, website to D/L the VSTi). Peter, I would like to hear some feedback from you about the original post. Having done quite a bit of Database programming, I think the VST is not getting the proper message, if at all, from the app (or visa-versa). I have no expierience in writing plug-ins, but I would think that if the cursor is in a 'blank' section of a track, that the app probably sends a message to the plug that it doesn't need to do any proccessing, and the opposite when it enters the event, then the opposite again once it leaves the event. If it's not getting the message to not process data (because there is none), perhaps it's trying to process 'bogus' data (that does not conform to audio data) of an empty section of track. Any feedback on this? Thanks for your time, Dan Message last edited on8/14/2006 7:38:12 AM byRMS. |

Sound Quest appears to be aware of this problem. They are sending me the software. It was not free from what I understood, but if you have information, please post it - to this or a new thread - I don't care where. (Be specific and don't leave anything out. Tell me exactly what you do to use this plugin and how I do it as I am not an expert in what you doing/using.) >>Peter, I would like to hear some feedback from you about the original post. ......Any feedback on this?<< Not how things work in VST land - or any plugin designed/intended for realtime streaming. You don't stop sending and start sending, but there are mechanism for dealing with this to help with efficiency. You must SEND data to recieve data, so simply turning things off when a silent section is hit means you could loose reverb tails and other such important things. However silence is data and many plugins rely on silence so there is no way to "filter it out" and still get the right things happening across all plugins. Regardless, if your sceneraio were the case - in general - then every plugin would exhibit the same behavior and it would not be just with the Waves plugins. We are looking into your issues with Waves. Peter |

Dan, I don't know if you ever solved your problem, but I experienced a similar issue. After a process of elimination I tracked it down to a single track where I had a Waves mono plug-in rather than a stereo plug. After replacing it with a stereo plug my problem was solved. Even though it ws a mono loop, it needed a stereo plug to work without crashing. I hope this helps. David |
