Subject:How to Import Vegas Projects into Acid?

As Sony is shaking off the last of its audio loyalists with the release of Vegas 7, it seems now is the time to bring my projects out of Vegas and into Acid.

However, I can't find a way to do this. Vegas can export as EDL, but Acid seems not to import this format?! Is there an EDL to Acid project convertor somewhere? Has anyone done this? Have I missed something obvious?

It seems ridiculous that I can easily migrate my Vegas projects to Reaper (and most other DAWs) using EDL, but I can't within Sony's own product line!

Where do the Vegas users go?

Cheers,

Randy

I wasn't aware Vegas could render as EDL. Is this something new? And what exactly does the EDL format let you do? (Take note that I'm a lowly musician whose knowledge of Vegas is not as thorough as ACID's.)

I always thought of Vegas as the NLE for video (for the most part), while ACID as the more creative side for audio.

It should be noted that ACID Pro's use of video is extremely limited; you can only import a video track for reference and not much more, other than to score your ACID project to the video and use an external monitor to view the video.

I was pretty jealous of Vegas' ability to multitrack until recently. ;)

It's a basic file format for indicating what all of the edit decisions are for each track. For example, say I have twenty tracks, each with ten events. Then there will be two hundred entries in the EDL file indicating for each event: the track, the media file, the start and end edit points, in and out fades, and maybe some other basic info.

As you can imagine, I am not going to manually recreate this info in Acid, it will be far too tedious!

Cheers,

Randy

If ACID had a Script API like Vegas and Sound Forge this could easily be accomplished. It's too bad it doesn't. :(
