Is it possible to set up a side chain compressor with Acid Pro 6b - I am trying with a demo of the waves C1 side chain compressor but am having no luck (can't find any free side-chain compressors - boo!) |

This starts to look like a feature request for Acid Pro 7... Isn't it Peter ? |

you can use this plugin to do sidechaining in acid pro: http://www.db-audioware.com/dB-D-dynamics-processor-more.htm i use it for a long time and it works very well. its directx only but it does the job very well! and hey its very cheap... :-) |

It would be amazing to be able to independanty send a track's signal (complete with independant panning to support sidechaining/ducking) to anywhere aside from just a buss -- i.e. a piece of hardware, another track's FX chain, individual plug-ins within an FX chain of any given track or buss - I guess that would be pretty complicated to code out (to say the very least) thanks for the responses I'll check out DB audioware in the meantime R Message last edited on8/27/2006 2:55:23 PM byRedStone. |

The problem is that there is no standard way to do this with either VST or DX plugins. The current plugs that support this either do it in a proprietary way or use host specific configurations to accomplish this. Peter |

Well, now it sounds like a Sony track compressor plugin feature suggestion. :-)~ |

peter , actually the VST standard provides multichannel input and outputs per plug-in, and the plug-in can expose channel names as well. If you like I'm sure some of your users can pick some VSTs that you can test with. |

Yep, I know this. This approach has been around for some time and was invented by plugin vendors to address the lack of a specific side chaining definition by the VST SDK. I am aware of the plugins that expose side-chaining using this method. Not an ideal solution, and it falls into the "workaround for specific hosts" catagory I mentioned. We may support this workaround, but we don't currently. Thanks, Peter Message last edited on8/27/2006 11:07:01 PM bypwppch. |

I would rather use a general standard than anything proprietary. As deadbeef points out, there is a method using VSTs that can address this problem. It is getting wider acceptance, but is not as user friendly or constistent from vendor to vendor as we would like. We will look at this - and other proposed alternatives - for a future version. The main question would be "What are people using sidechaining for" If it's only for compression, then a Sony Compressor Plugin updated would be a great goodie... What can we use Sidechaining for except of compressors ? Oh yeah, Reverbs... E.G. Satisfaction by Benni Benassi ^^ Message last edited on8/28/2006 1:19:38 AM byZacchino. |

my fingers are crossed in anticipation for sidechaining with Acid ... it's one of those things that can really make or break some mixes (or re-mixes) - in my mind anyway - thanks for the responses! |

Now that I'm thinking about it ... it would also be great to be able to let a bus accept live input for live processing (i.e. route a singal out to a hardware compressor and then back in for further digital processing ... I also just figured out how to sidechain with Acid! ... of course, I have to do it workaroundish and it eats CPU time - but it sort of did the trick anyway (it still would be nice to be able to do it natively). so basically, I set up the sidechain compressor on a bus, followed by a free stereo-to-mono plug-in (Gsonic Gpan). I then made copies of my bass and kick tracks and placed them into folder tracks to separate them from the originals. I then panned the copied kick track hard R and the Bass Hard L and Bussed them to the sidechain and voila! Everytime the kickdrum hits, the bass guitar compresses. And witht Gpan inserted after the sidechain, the new bass sound comes out from both speakers instead of just the Right channel! |
