Subject:Trouble with NI Kontakt 2.1 in ACID 6b

I have a project with NI Guitar Rig FX on a lead guitar track and a bass track and several other auido (vocal) tracks. Also Jamstix VST inserted. Had two MIDI tracks set up to play "string ensemble" in Kompakt.

Decided I wanted to go big time string sample and bought NI Kontakt 2.1. Inserted Kontakt into the project and set the two MIDI tracks out to Kontakt. Sometimes one track would play sometimes both tracks would play. Locked up Acid a couple of times. Decided to take a break.

Opened the project later...pushed play and as soon as the first MIDI note was played heard a buzz through the monitors and the screen froze but the rest of the audio tracks kept playing. MCI error message on the screen with some memory address blah blah blah... Shut down everything. Opened the project again same thing happened.

Seems like problem gets worse with time. crazy.
Has anyone experienced anything similar using Kontakt??
Thanks

Have you updated to ACID 6.0b?

What audio hardware is on your system? I see that your systems specs say "on board". Can you be any more specific?

What is the MCI error msg you get?

Peter

Peter,

Currently using 6b (build 305).

Audio hardware = on board, meaning I have no physical audio card in a slot. Realtek: Location 65535 (Internal High Def Audio Bus), Intel sound chip 82801G (ICH7 family)

If I recall correctly, there were two msg boxes, one with a red circle and an X reading "The instruction at "0x7665cb8a" referenced a "0x00000000" the memory could not be read"....OK to term., CANCEL to debug. This message was over the MCI msg.

MCI error msg = MCI command handling window: acid60.exe app. error.
I did duplicate the problem getting the same messages and crash.

The following is another case:
I started another project, inserted a MIDI track, inserted Kontakt, chose piano instrument, recorded, then played back, no problem. Then I inserted another MIDI track out to Kontakt, chose a cello instr. no sound. Opened that same project today and pushed play...Acid immediately locked up...ended program using Windows resulting in a "restart". Microsoft's error reporting "service" described it as a stop error caused by a device drvr.

My video drivers are current.

I can run Kontakt in stand alone mode with no problems.

Thanks,
Geoffrey

Geoffrey,

This seems to be related to your audio hardware and its drivers. ACID does not use MCI for any audio related functionality. My guess is that the driver interaction with Windows is getting involved, but not having your specific audio hardware available, it is impossible to know.

Are you using the Mapper mode of ACID or are you working directly with the Windows Classic driver?

You MAY want to take a look at ASIO4ALL and see if it supports your audio hardware.

You should make sure that you have have the latest driver set for your audio hardware. You may want to look at the Intel site or determine who made the motherboard and check there web site out.

I failed to mention I use a TASCAM US122 audio interface for audio/MIDI. I believe the ASIO drvrs I use came with the interface.

Also, I had not encountered any lock ups or crashes using Acid Pro 6 or 6a.

I installed 6b and had one lock up with NI Guitar Rig 2 inserted but hasn't occured again... BUT....nothing like what has occured since I have started using NI Kontakt 2.1 as plug-in.

I just don't get it... what is it that could cause my project to crash just by switching two MIDI track outs from Kompakt plug-in to Kontakt plug-in????

I'll try to find something on Intel
Thanks
Geoffrey

If 6.0a was not giving you the same problem, then you may have a corrupt install.

Uninstall ACID 6.0b.
Then locate the setup directory
Program Files\Sony Setup\ACID Pro 6.0
and remove it completely.

Reinstall ACID 6.0b.

Peter,

Followed your advice...reinstalled. Played the project for about 15 sec. No problems. I'll work some more with it later this evening but hopefully that has resolved the issue.

A laughable note: Once I did the reinstall the Sony screen ask for the serial number input. I was going through everything for about an hour looking for a program disc with a serial number and finally it dawned on me I had downloaded the program and had the content disc shipped to me.

I'll post an update tomorrow.

Thank you,
Geoffrey
