Hi,

I am making some voice recordings on my PC for use on an IVR server. My editing software is Audio Studio and i am experiencing some issues.

I believe that my microphone may be at fault, can you recommend a microphone to make some recordings on a PC?

My format of the messages is .ivc 8,000Hz G721 A-Law

Thanks
Daryl

As important as the microphone, is a mic preamp, if your soundcard is of the consumer variety, factor that in.
What Is your budget? A functional low cost set-up of mic preamp & mic of usable quality would start at around 150-200 USD.
Others on this forum may have more specific suggestions for a low cost set-up.

Given the project parameters it should sound little better than telephone quality. In what way do you think your mic is crook ?

I've done exactly the same kind of work - IVR is a bit maddening because you're downsampling the audio SO MUCH. That said, resist the temptation to record "so so" audio.

I've gotten MUCH better results (and happy customers) when I record the very best vocals I can. In my case I use a Studio Projects C3 Microphone and an M-Audio DMP3 pre-amp (which I'm actually upgrading to some MOTU pre-amp gear).

In any case, for a simple and cheap solution for PC recording look at the http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1810

I've noodled a bit with one of these Samson USB Condenser mics and I have to say, for around $100 you just CAN'T go wrong. And SF8 recorded it perfectly.
