Hosts for seven days, at no cost. After seven days, file goes away.

Try Photobucket. It costs $9.00 for three months. Loads of photos and several videos.

For you youtube users, what settings do you use to encode your video for uploading? (I have Vegas 5) Or do you use another encoder?

...sites like these are popping up all the time. Most of what's on these sites were captured from cell phones, digital still cameras and web cams and are just teens goofing around.

Not all content is for everyone though so view with discretion.

I tried a bunch of them recently for the same reason. Most of them convert your video into horrible looking Flash video.

The best one I found that still lets you keep the original format (WMV, etc) in addition to horrible looking Flash so that you can link to the good version of the video is Vimeo.

John

PS: I immediately cancelled the Photobucket account I recommended above after I found out that they too convert your file to horrible looking Flash 8.

The one I linked to before still works great, and you don't have to convert to any format. Just upload and up to 25 people can download for seven days. Perfect for a small, low-activity site like this one.

Apart from zippyvideo.com are there any websites that will allow me to upload video, but not have it added to the main library for pulbic view. I often use this when showing clients unfinished work...

"For you youtube users, what settings do you use to encode your video for uploading? (I have Vegas 5) Or do you use another encoder?"

24Peter, this is what I do for Youtube and Myspace:

Encode to PAL DV AVI from Vegas 6

In VirtualDub:

Smart Deinterlace filter (with defaults)

Resize to 320x240 (Lanczos3)

Compress video with Xvid (1024kbps CBR)

Compress audio with Lame MP3 (44100kHz, 128 kbps CBR)

They still muck up the quality with their Flash conversion but at least this gives them the best chance of making a reasonable job.

A little over a week ago a new forum user created a "Vegas Video" group on youtube for posting vids. thread.

Depending on what you may wish to post, WMV seems to be one way to get a lot of compression (i.e. for small vids). There are of course lots of alternatives, depending on what to post.

~so at this point is youtube the best bet? some of the ones listed here back in april don't seem to be around anymore. what about video.google.com? i would like to know:

-how is the quality?
-how much space do you get (i'd like to post 140MB/ 6.5 minutes)?
-how long will it stay up?
-can you have limited viewership?

i looked at the google site and couldn't find any of this info.

SKROOTAYP - here's a short review with links to a variety of hosting sites.

External linking to video files is not allowed at vegasusers.com, sorry. Too many folks were finding "interesting" videos on my site and putting links in their blogs and emails. I had a case where someone found a Disney vacation video at vegasusers.com and posted the link in a Disney vacation forum. Within minutes there were over 35,000 download attempts. Unfortunately i wasn't at home at the time so it took me almost an hour to log into my own server remotely to clear it all out and get things running again. You can link to vegasusers.com if you wish to, but only to the description of the video, not to the video itself.

To this day, several years later, there are still anywhere up to 200 remote attempts daily to access that video. Now all people see from remote links is a tiny, 13K .wmv file that says "external linking denied, please visit vegasusers.com to see the video". I guess that shows how popular Disneyland is!
