Well 6.0a brought me back to Vegas, though I did enjoy Sonar for some things and Nuendo was ok, but man, I have to give it to the Sony dudes for putting into 6.0a what I thought should be in 6.0.

That said, I'm looking for a new soundcard to handle things. I generally just use a single mic for vocals and acoustic / electric guitar. However, I'd like something a little more robust to larger groups.

I'm attracted to the EMU 1820

I wanted to know if anyone is using this...

I don't want to go M-Audio cuz I loathe most of their stuff from Avid to Pro Tools. Are there other things people recommend?

Do a search here on EMU and you’ll find that most of the posts are from frustrated owners who can’t get them to work right with ACID and can’t get EMU to do anything about it.

Here is just one of them: ACID 5.0a and the EMU 1820M

I would not recommend anything from EMU for ACID owners. (it’s a shame because they use to be a great company)

I use an M-Audio Firewire-410 and have no problems with it. M-Audio makes outstanding products despite the fact that AVID bought them. It’s quality stuff and good value for the money.

If you have that much of a bias against M-Audio then take a look at the Echo line. The Echo Gina 3G is really nice.

Same here on the FW410. It's a great solid piece.

Also at the risk of getting hammered by haterz, if you can find one and have some time on your hands to get it working initially...Presonus Firestations sound great! There are some problems with mLan and getting it setup to start, but if you can deal with it it's a great piece that sounds incredible, has 2 tube mic pres, and can double as a line mixer and convertor for ADAT optical.

It seems they are working to solve the issues...

I own EMU0404 with some troubles with ASIO routing. It runs ok now after some tricks here and there.

is that just with 5? I remembered reading that, but the 1820m sounds so sweeeeeet.

the processors on it are supposedly supposed to be the same as the pro tools HD ones.

i'd love to switch to that.
