I'm trying to help a friend on a horse riding drill team. They would like to remove the voice from a Dolly Parton song and ride their drill to just the music. Can this be done with Acid Music Studio? - (Home edition not Pro) |

Impossible with Acid. Impossible with just about any other music production program, large and small. Just because a CD has digital tracks doesn't mean that the voice and instrument tracks are separate. Try finding a karaoke version of the song. |

> Try finding a karaoke version of the song. Ditto! As Feign said, ACID cannot do this and his advice to find a Karaoke version is probably the best approach. While you cannot fully remove vocals from a track, there are times when you can minimize the vocal if it is panned dead center in the mix. You can do this with Sound Forge using the Process > Channel Converter > Vocal Cut preset. There are also free plug-ins like the AnalogX Vocal Remover that do a similar job and you can use this right within ACID. You will get better results if you split the two stereo channels and manually invert one and reduce the bass on one so that instruments like a bass drum (which is also usually panned dead center) don’t get cut out. There is a very interesting article The Truth About Vocal Eliminators by Ethan Winer that explains this very clearly. The bottom line is that even when this works, you will still hear remnants of the vocal or its reverb so this is best used when you want to replace a vocal, in which case the new vocal covers most of this up. I’m with Feign on this one, if you are going to listen to this song without the vocal you will never be happy with the results. Find a Karaoke version of the song. ~jr Message last edited on7/16/2006 7:43:37 AM byJohnnyRoy. |
