There are two places the distortion could be coming from (assuming it’s overdrive distortion). You could be overloading the input of the mixer. If the mixer has a headphone out, monitor through this to determine if the distortion is in the mixer. Always keep the mains on the mixer higher than the channel faders so that you have enough head-room. Use a pad to attenuate the mic if it’s too hot for the input. The other and more likely place is the input to your sound card. Make sure you have the line-outs from the mixer (not a powered speaker out) going into the line-in of your sound card (not the mic-in). Try lowering either the output of the mixer or input of the sound card or both. (The sound card faders are in the Windows Volume Control or whatever mixing software came with your sound card) More information on exactly how everything is wired including make and model number of the components involved will also help others to diagnose the problem. Try filling in the system specs in your profile so others can see what equipment you’re working with (that’s why its there). ~jr |

In Options > Preferences > Audio Device, use the Classic Wave Driver and it will give you more options after you arm a track for record. If you have an SB Audigy 2 or newer you should have a driver called Creative ASIO. Select this and it should allow you to record from any one of the Audigy’s inputs. ~jr |

Ok this is what I would look at, based on my Audigy Card. If you have a different one things might be a littele different but hopefully you'll get the idea. In sound blaster see if you have something like a surround mixer. This comes with my SB software. At the far right you should see a "Rec" option as well as other options for line in etc. You'll just need to mess around with assigning the proper input as well as levels. Hope this helps Richard |
