My movie to air on Sci-Fi on Tues, July 11th!

My movie, "Sasquatch Hunters" will be having its television premiere tomorrow (Tuesday, July 11, 2006) on the Sci-Fi Channel. It airs at 8pm Eastern & Western (7pm Central). Check your listings.

The rough cut for the first 2/3 of it was edited on Final Cut, but after that it was all Vegas 4, including all of the sound mix. Hopefully they won't screw up the music mix on the broadcast as they did on the DVD, altering my mix by creating a fake surround by pumping the music to all channels, thereby causing it to overpower the dialog. (I only provided a stereo mix.)

So tell your friends! Tell your enemies! Set your Tivos! Tell all of your "Nielsen family" friends!

Cheers,
Fred

Movie web site.

PS: Hopefully this isn't considered OT. But after all, the vast majority of it was edited on Vegas (there's only about 7 minutes of unaltered Final Cut picture), it was entirely mixed on Vegas, and the DVD was released by Sony.

PPS: No, I don't make any extra money if the ratings are good, but it would be very satisfying to see it perform well, and considering that I'm still a long way from breaking even, that would at least be something.

Congrats to you, Fred! I know you've worked dang hard to sell this film to Sony, and to get distribution. Broadcast is even sweeter~
I'll be watching.

Great news, Fred. Congratulations! Hate to see the intrusion of commercials, but I will watch.

By-the-way, was there any re-editing for the television version... for any reason?

Congrats. I has a film air on SciFi several years ago. it is a good thing when that happens. :)

Jay, I believe they'll just have to bleep some language. Should be interesting.
Jay Gladwell wrote on 7/10/2006, 2:28 PM

I was wondering if they would have to do anything make room for the commercials.

Congratualtions -

why not tell us your story - production to screening.

It's the (sometimes) hidden dream of every film maker to be seen on a national venue. I think your story would be of great interest to everyone on this site.

Maybe mount it on a website somewhere, and give us a pointer to it.

What do you think?

Great idea Vic - I would love to hear how this puppy got made. Don't spare the technical details or how Vegas figured into the work flow, this would be a huge source of info and inspiration for us folks with similar aspirations :)

Thanks a bunch and congratulations!

Congratulations! I'll tivo it for sure. And yes, you have my vote for any kind of "production blog" with as much info and anecdotes as possible.

..Kudos fwtep... I won't miss this one!..

..from the link, your listed as Producer.. but I'm sure you must have helped in some of the other area's of production.. What other hat's did you wear : ) .. can you give us a hint, on how much it cost you to produce this program?.. or is that not kosher to ask?...
fwtep wrote on 7/10/2006, 7:00 PM
I'll post more info later today or tomorrow, but in answer to Tumbleweed's questions: I produced, directed, co-wrote, wrote the story, did all of the FX (but someone else created the digital character and another person set up the animation rig for me), ended up doing the final edting, music editing, sound effects, mixing, color correction, poster art, web site, etc. For contractual reasons I didn't give myself screen credit for some of those things. For example, the verbal agreement I originally had with my writing partner was that he'd write the script and get credit. I ended up doing a lot of writing but decided to honor the original credit agreement. As for the budget, it was around $250,000. I could do the same film for MUCH less now (and I'd definitley shoot HDV).

Doh! If you have Dish Network or DirecTV, the movie airs on the west coast at 5pm. Those satellite systems only show the east coast feed of Sci-Fi.

Congrats and good luck, i am watching now..

Fred, i believe i have met you before, i had a friend named Grant Boucher.. and you were working at Digital Domain, and i took a tour of DD with Grant, before the Titanic movie came out.. and you showed me some of the Lightave models of the Titanic.. i am sure you do not remember.. But it was great fun, and i remember your name..

Good luck,

Yeah, I've got a satellite system and a giant storm covering nearly a third of the state is moving through. We've lost the signal... just as they were getting ready to leave their camp after the guy got attacked.

Bummer...!

Can I get a refund?

Was this shot entirely on MiniDV?

A pretty good flick to say the least.
tumbleweed wrote on 7/11/2006, 9:51 PM
..there's photos on the website, & I see an Arri & another full size cam, but I can't say what it is.. miniDV?.. I doubt it..

Fred,

The show was overall very good. The script seemed well written and the actors were overall very good. I particularly liked the old guy. And the girl with the big jugs was a stunner.
The cinematography was very nice and the scenery shots were beautiful.
The only thing I felt that was weak were the daytime shots of the creatures. They looked too fake. And unfortunately it hits you right at the start with the first attack followed by the creature flinging the dummy against the tree.
The night time shots were very convincing though. Those worked very well. I liked the night shot with the creature trying to yank the guy out of the pit.

Congrats on a job well done Fred.
