Subject:MIDI chop to new track - not working?

Send a MIDI track to the chopper and then select a portion of the track, right-click, chop to new track : it doesn't appear to be doing anything.

I used this alot in Acid5, and it worked as expected.

Anyone else use this? Bug, or am I missing something?

Are you sure?

I have a project I was working on and it didn't work. Then I opened a new Acid project, inserted a MIDI track, recorded some MIDI, right clicked "Select in Chopper...", made a subselection in the chopper and right clicked "Chop to New Track". It does nothing!

For that matter, "Chop to New Clip" does nothing also!

I've tried it multiple times and it is very repeatable 100%.
Then, I checked Acid5 to make sure I'm not halucinating:)

Yes

When I select the "Chop to New Track", from the Chopper, a new track is created, with a new clip, in the Track's Clip Pool. I simply left click & drag the clip out and there it is.

Well, I wish I had your version, 'cause mine definately doesn't do that!

I just opened another new project and tried it again - no go.

Are you sure you are doing this with a MIDI track, not Audio?

Yes, I am using MIDI tracks. I am using the latest ACID Pro 6a(Build 263). Do you have any other irregularities going on? Did you upgrade over the exisiting 6.0 build? You may want to un-install and then re-install 6a fresh. If you do, go ahead and delete the ACID Pro 6.0 folder that resides inside the C:\Program Files\Sony Setup folder, after you un-install and then re-boot.

Don't I always? LOL.

No nothing major that I know of.

Did you upgrade over the exisiting 6.0 build?

Yes. Is that problematic?

I guess I could try the uninstall/ fresh reinstall if you think it would help.

I did the uninstall / fresh reinstall and now it works! I knew I wasn't hallucinating.

Thanks for the tip billybk!

Gee, I wonder what other nice surprises I'll find now...

I just dragged and dropped a standard multi-track MIDI file (the kind you find all over the net), from the Loop Explorer view onto the timeline, of a new ACID project. ACID creates a Folder Track with all the individual MIDI tracks, for each, MIDI channel, that has data, in the SMF. I click on a MIDI event, for a given track (in this case, it is the drum track, which spans the entire length, of the song), and click on the docked "Chopper" tab. There resides all the MIDI drum note data, I left click and drag an (8) measure section (so it's highlighted, in the Chopper), and then right click, which brings up the context menu. I then select "Chop to New Track" and a dialog box pops up, prompting me to save the new file. I change the name, of the autonamed file and then click "Save". A new MIDI track is created with the newly chopped clip, in the Track's Clip Pool.
Now I simply left click and drag the new drum clip out. If I want it to loop, I'll right click, on the clip and from the drop down menu select, "Event Clip" and then "Loop" from the submenu.

Are you not able to do that?

Edit: I posted this after your latest post. I guess you have it worked out now
