Subject:Has anyone used Kompakt to convert samples?

When I first got AP6 I was pleased to read that with Kompakt you could convert existing samples, including EXS24 which I have many of, costing a fair bit. I tried following the manual but got strange results, so I tried writing to NI support, got a tracking number but never heard again - I asked what was going on and got another tracking number - this was months ago! I also tried asking for help in the Kompakt Forum - 273 views, no replies ... All I want is a step by step how to convert - do I drag exs files or wav files - where exactly do I drop them, etc. I was tempted to forget EXS24 and upgrade to the full Kontakt, but with support like that I wondered if that was wise! I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully converted their previously owned samples / soft synths so they can be used in Kompakt / Acid. Thanks. |

I have been able to convert my Gigastudio samples. Haven't got Acid in front of me now, but from memory, this is what I do: - Open the file browser window in Kompakt - Navigate to my Giga drive - Drag a Giga instrument to an empty slot in Kompakt - Play the instrument in kompakt to check that it works Ok - Save it on my Kompakt drive as a Kompakt format instrument Generally works Ok. There was one instrument that crashed Acid when I tried to save, but only one so far. |

Thanks jumbuk - so was it the proprietary Giga files you were able to drag across, or .wav files of the actual samples? UPDATE - Yesss!! Thanks to your help I think I'm finally on my way - it was that stupid Kompakt Browser and the manual, which said to click on an actual folder to see the files below - I've just found that I have to click on the Folder NAME - then the exs files appear, and as you said, I can then drag them to an empty Multi and save. Thanks again - and thanks for nothing to Native Instruments (lack of) Support!! Message last edited on7/3/2006 11:15:05 PM byPeterWright. |

It was the actual proprietary files that I dragged - as you have discovered by yourself. Glad you cracked it finally. |

Did that happen to you too? LOL I thought I was going coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs trying to figure out why the folder wasn't opening. I've gotten myself in the habit of not clicking the folder name because sometimes Windows assumes I want to rename the folder. Iacobus |

The last couple of comments highlight just how good the Acid interface is. It may seem simple and even boring, but having everything based on standard Windows conventions makes it instantly usable. I hate applications that are based on Apple standards (Cubase) or worse, proprietary interfaces that seem to be written by games programmers. This is a weakness of Kompakt (and most of NI's applications). |
