i added a basic drum loop to my project and then recorded guitar over it. when i played it back the recorded track was slightly slower than the drum loop. thank you.

Using a Soundblaster card, perhaps?

Sounds like ACID recorded your guitar track as a Beatmapped track. Try changing it to a One-shot track type (under the track's properties). One-shots are the only ACIDized track type ACID does not timestretch (giving a "what you hear is what you get" approach).
