OK . . Guys and Galz! What are the restrictions on using these loops? Can I use them as part of an ACID creation I make and apply this to a fee paying video I make?

Somebody please give me a simple answer?

Grazie

Haha, dude, they're free, it was a labor of love...use 'em and abuse them however you like. I only asked for links cuz I'm keen to hear what people do with them, but they're 100% free and you can do whatever you want with them...even if you sell a million records with them, you don't owe me a dime.

The only thing I ask that you don't do is try to sell the loop library itself. It's meant to be free and I want it to stay that way.

Yeah we know it was a labor of love... that's why we're worried. Labors of Love usually don't involve things as checking out or securing copyrights from whomever first made these sounds. My guess is that we can use them so long as what we use them for isn't published. No offence intended by the way, I appreciate your work. Someone could find themselves in real hot water though if we don't discuss this.

meh, I don't know what to tell ya, everybody contributed the loops willingly, knowing it was for a free, no-copywrite release. If you wanna worry about it, I can't stop ya, but I didn't put this together to get into any business negotiations.

You could always contact the individual artists directly at AcidPlanet if you want to try to secure something in writing, but I'm not going to draft up a license for something I'm giving away and plainly stating is completely royalty-free.

I believe the issue is not whether the artists are saying it’s royalty free. The issue is: Do they have a right to say it’s royalty free? In other words, do ALL of the artists own ALL of the recordings on these loops so that they are the sole owner of the right to declare that it can be royalty free?

To say it another way, if I illegally sample a record and make a loop I have no right to declare that loop as royalty free since I didn’t have the rights for the media it was created from. People are afraid of getting sued by the original right owners if it was not the authors of this disc.

This is what people want to know.

I can't speak for the other artists, but I can guarantee I own all the rights to the loops I provided for the compilation. They were created using custom patches on a Nord MicroModular - no sampling involved, just pure synthy goodness.

I'm glad to see there's interest in this project, and it's great you guys are asking these kinds of questions. When it comes to the legalitles of publishing (or anything) it's best to never assume.

Peace and Groove,
The Thump

1500+ downloads, baby! I'll leave business to the suits, and keep hoping someday I'm famous enough for someone to think it's worthwhile to sue me.

awesome! loops are fun to have especially to work with different projects but i always wondered if it was like legal to use them with ones projects unless you want to make money then you need to make your own i guess.

Illogical-

Sounds like a great collection, but I can't figure out how to download. When I copy the link, Tradebit says it's "not in my group" or something. I assume that's because I need to register with Tradebit (get a login), but I can't figure out how to do that short of signing up as a Seller on Tradebit. I'd rather not do all that (submit PayPal info, etc).

Am I missing something in the process?

Brian

Hi Tattoo,
Sorry, the link is no longer active. Peace Love Productions hosted the download for me (Big Thanks!) and left it up for about two weeks. Another guy (deject) from AcidPlanet was also hosting it on his website...I'll check with him and see if he still has it up. If so, I'll post a link here.
Cheers,
iLL

Okay, deject is the man...he's still got it hosted at his site. You can download here:

http://www.apathynation.info/content/AP-Loop-Disc.zip

Get it quick, I can't make any promises about how much longer it'll be hosted there.

Excellent! Okay, now to see if my dial-up connection can hack it! Yep, after being on the leading edge of broadband for the last six years I'm back to dialup. Military moved me to small town in Italy for now, and dial-up is the best my village has to offer. I'm dying ...
