Broadcast Waves

So, does anybody know how to save a broadcast wave in vegas 6? It advertises BWF support, but I can't seem to find anything. I made the upgrade to vegas 6 from 5 because I need to be able to create BWFs. Since vegas 6 obviously misadvertised, does anyone know of any stand alone free BWF utilities? Or does anyone know when Sony is going to release a patch and fix this problem?

All that advertsied features means is you can open a two channel BWF file and sync its timecode. That's it, no more channels, no output either.

Vegas can open, but not save or render a BWF. It's not a bug or problem, something about licencing. And an attempt to alienate fussy pro audio users.
Same deal with OMF probably.

Licencing, that's a new one. Surely even if there's some licencing issue involved it cannot be that hard to sort out, every 'pro' audio field device records in that format. As a matter of interest who (if anyone) own the rights to it?

Seems according to the EBU that and RF64 were supposed to be merged. I know Sony and the EBU aren't the best of pals at the moment but this is an audio file format, come on guys, kiss and makeup. After all their latest HiDef recommendation should see Sony making a killing selling cameras.

Just to add a bit more to this. Here at Sound Ideas we are STILL waiting for them to add broadcast wave support to sound forge and vegas. Our clients need to have metadata embedded inside the files and at this point I can't find a single program that will let me edit, re-save and KEEP the metadata that was originally in the file!

In fact, today I could use this feature really badly. I wonder if any of the competitors have got this worked out yet. Time to check.

From what I've learned is that this is pretty much par for the course coming from Sony as a sales strategy. They market it for one release and give you 50% functionality, where you'll jump on board in hopes that it will fit your needs, but soon you realize it's only half functional. For the next release, they'll give you another 40% of that feature, as an incentive to purchase the next version update. Then the following release you'll get the final 10%. So you can pretty much expect fully functional BWF support in Vegas 8.0. You think I'm kidding? Go read the Acid forum, for all the missing Vegas item concerns/complaints, the reply if there is one, is always "Maybe in the next release of Acid". I don't remember it ever being that way in the Sonic Foundry days. It's definately a long term sales strategy that seemed to kick in when Sony took over.

If you need to open multi-channel (more than two) BWF files try Adobe Audition. Since version 1.5 it can open BWF files, though you may need to change the suffix back to .wav. A friend of mine uses it to open and check four channel BWF files made on his SoundDevices recorder.
Not a lot of help in the use of BWFs in Vegas though. Of course Vegas will open mono and stereo BWF files normally as wave files as long as the suffix is .wav and not .bwf you just don't get the timecode or other metadata.
